Wow, looks like great possibility of back to back State championships for West Campus! Pretty awesome for this small Sac City school!
I wonder if the Johnson sisters hadn't of left Antelope and transferred there, would this have happened? Kiara Jefferson is a very very very good player, I can't wait to see how she does at UCLA. I think her game will fit very well at the college level and she will be a contributor right away. Not sure she can be as good as Jordan Canada, but she definitively has the potential. Both have a lot of similarities coming out of high school.
I think Kiara's game will actually translate more at the next level. Crazy athleticism and speed. Has all the tools. She has been very unselfish player in high school. I think if she wanted to, she could have averaged 25+ a game. Of course in the Pac12, the guard play is outstanding, so we will see how she develops. I am very much looking forward to see her play at UCLA and follow her career. That is a pretty big stretch. Canada was the cog for the SoCal Open Division champs her senior year and dominated at pretty high prep levels. Jefferson hasn't done that. Kiara flashes a pretty high skill level, but it is inconsistent. Playing at that high level more often will determine how she does at UCLA
Congrats to a very talented West Campus team. But everybody predicted this would happen. West Campus should have been no lower than a D2 team, and possibly a D1.Committe whiffed bad on this team.
I think that is a high seed for West Campus. That would mean they were a Top 20 team in NorCal and I don't think many complained when we didn't have them in the mix. I had them as a Division II team.
This is how I think the committee looked at it: West Campus lost to all the good teams they played except McClatchy. They are D4 in their section but won state last year so lets move them up to D3
There is a LOT wrong with that line of thinking, but its how I think it went down
PV should have been in D1 also so i spot behind them puts them at a 10 or so in D1If west Campus had been a 2 seed behind PV in D2 I would have been OK with that.
and the D3 D4 etc designation is no longer applicable...as comp equity seeding has changed the meaning
Level playing v. fraudulent are two different things. Eastside in D5 not level for sure but West Campus with a win over CKM and dropping to a division 3 5 seed? CKM did not qualify for the state playoffs and lost to WC and still gets seeded two divisions higher? That is fraudulent, agree with the Guru on that one."Most fraudulent"? Maybe, but what about Pinewood and Eastside playing D5? That wasn't exactly a level playing field either.
There's no system that really works ... this one needs tweaks, no question, but I still like West Campus in D4 better than Eastside in D5.
Why is Eastside Prep in D5 not level? Is it because they have a good coach or girls that work head and buy into his system? What are they doing that could not be replicated by any other D5 school? My opinion is that at the D5 level, there is probably more equality than any other division as they are all private school, thereby playing by the same rules.Level playing v. fraudulent are two different things. Not level in terms of them being a competitive anomaly for that division. I am not saying they should not be there I am simply saying they are way better than 95% of others in that enrollment level. Why is Eastside Prep in D5 not level?
