De La Salle vs Folsom

I am the biggest DLS supporter but that coach saying he hopes attendance is down rubs me the wrong way and worries me that they despite saying all the right things about Folsom are not fully in touch with what they are up against tonight. Folsom will turn out for the game coach! They smell blood and want to be there to watch history and storm your field to celebrate the win!

I think that you're taking what I said out of context. Or I wasn't clear...if so my apologies. Let me clarify. The coach, knowing that the game will be packed to the gills tonight, was merely stating that the live stream will hopefully limit fans from showing up and being turned away and missing it altogether. Because it will happen. Make no mistake the, attendance won't be down whatsoever. And secondly, DLS knows exactly who they're playing. I feel that t's kind of insulting the DLS coaching staff to say something like that. Folsom knows what they're up against as well. Both teams know what's one line. If either team doesn't, shame on them. Enjoy!! I will!

National football powerhouses collide as Folsom faces De la Salle

Last year's defending state champion (Div. I-AA) Folsom Bulldogs will travel to Concord to face one of the nation's most storied programs in the De la Salle Spartans.

Nationally ranked programs and two of California's best high school football schools are set to kick-off the season on Friday night.

Last year's defending state champion (Div. I-AA) Folsom Bulldogs will travel to Concord to face one of the nation's most storied programs in the De la Salle Spartans. A matchup usually reserved for a Northern California final will be the most anticipated regional game in recent memory.

Folsom will be looking to snap a streak of 290 straight wins by De la Salle against an opponent from NorCal -- a streak dating back to 1991.

"Everybody in the community is talking about it, so it's going to be a big game," said Folsom senior quarterback Kaiden Bennett. "We've just got to play at the best of our abilities."

Bennett and his Clemson-bound receiver Joseph Ngata echoed the Bulldogs' mindset heading into this season - promising to be better than last season. A tall task when last season resulted in an undefeated season and a state championship.

The Bulldogs are treating last season's state championship as an afterthought and aren't looking to carry any momentum from that success into this season.

"It's just coming in and being ready to work, and not being satisfied with yesterday, or the day before," said Ngata following Monday's practice. "We're trying to get to the top and (we know) that these teams are going to be different and going to be better. So we have to get acclimated to their skill sets and playing styles.

"This (game) will set a standard for us; knowing where we can grow and where we can improve," he continued. "This is definitely a great way to show who we are as a team and as a program."

Fifteen starters return for Folsom and the game with De la Salle was scheduled to help motivate them for the coming season.

"They're the measuring stick of all high school programs, if you ask me," said Folsom head coach Kris Richardson. "They've been the best program in the country the past two decades. We want to challenge our kids and If there's a way to motivate a team in the offseason, this is it."

Both the Spartans and Bulldogs are ranked 18th and 19th respectively by MaxPreps in the Xcellent Writers' 25 national poll.

DLS does know who there playing. They have played the same type of team many time. But Folsom has no clue who they are playing. They have never played anything close to DLS. If I’m way off please let me know. Like I said before people who know HSFB knows what I’m talking about. This absolutely will be an eye opening experience for Folsom. As for Folsom fans they still have “ we would have beat DLS in 2014” to fall back on.

I agree with this from an experience perspective. DLS has played many teams as good if not better than Folsom hasn’t seen a team like DLS. I think Folsom will take few hits to the mouth initially and then settle in. But DLS will pull away in the second half.

this was a couple days ago by the same guy that took the pictures earlier in the thread...

Should be a fun game to watch! Early season DLS, year after year, is less refined. I think the conclusion of the game is more in the hands of DLS than Folsom but those hands are covered in butter.

Lol ...I love the banter back and forth ,I just hope whomever the losing team's fan will step up and give the winning team some love.....Me personally I'm not a fan of either school but it's hard to bet against De La with their history, its never really a season in which they are loaded its their system which they run flawlessly. Folsom is absolutely stacked but the talent, the system and the homefield tilts it to the Spartans ...my gut says De La in a close one by 2 TD's......

Beating a dead horse.

DLS should have installed the bleachers in the west side end zone to properly manage the potentially enormous crowd and make available additional seating for the game.

Standing 10 deep or more in the end zone to watch this game is a cheap mans' way of managing the crowd.

DLS should have welcomed all interested parties to attend this game at their home field or they should moved the game to another venue.

Not a good look for DLS IMO.

Will have to see how it’s done next year at Folsom. I think if Folsom should pull off a miracle not one fan will say a word about the lack of seating. But in DLS’s defense have you ever tried to kick someone’s ass that’s sitting down.

Totally agree, especially with DLS’s experiences with big games over the years

Folsom will have zero problem with seating next year. It's a real stadium unlike the make shift one for today.

After the win, it will make next year that much better!

One slight consolation, like an ice cube in the Sahara, the Home side bleachers are full-on sun while the visitors' side gets the shade sooner. By 6-7:00 it will be relatively cooler on the visitors' side. Could be a mini blessing with late afternoon temperatures crawling close to mid 90's

Leaving home now to head out to O-O with the Mrs to work at the Game. Just want to say that however the game turns out hopefully everyone will understand and appreciate there are winners all around (not the lets all hold hands kumbaya type) but the kind of winning where truly competitive programs, players and coaching staffs could to go head to head; let us not forget all the enthusiasm this type of matchup has generated among all us knuckle heads....in mid August!!

We need to appreciate how such matchups are good for all this early in the season. We should be so lucky to have a matchup of this caliber. I grew up in central Ohio and lived and died by the Buckeye-Wolverine matchups. My cousin Qb'd the Buckeyes in the late 60's steering them to the '68 Rose Bowl against USC but nothing and I mean nothing compared(s) to the rivalry felt, breathed and awaited fore against the Blue & Maize to the North.

Here's hoping for an exciting, nail biting match up and that the players finish well with no injuries. Hopefully this will be a game where some players will dig deep within and become part of the memorable history & lore of 2 great programs that we will still speak of years from now.

GO SPARTIE !! GO DAWGS !! Let's showcase NorCal prep Football

Nearing the end of the 3rd quarter for the JV game, there are still some seats available on Folsom’s side as I look on from the DLS stands on the 40. Not packed at all, yet.

Btw. If this JV game has any insight (doubt it) for tonight’s Varsity game or next years Varsity game at Folsom, Bulldogs are in over their heads. With less than 2 minutes left in the 3rd quarter it’s DLS 27 Folsom 7. If it helps, Folsom JV is knocking on the door on the DLS 10 yard line. Folsom scores. Woohoo! LOL!

Big gun crew...no homering tonight.
That’s Dave Cutaia, former Pac12 Officials Coordinator in the white hat.
