CalPreps says Mater Dei will bop the Spartans, 44-3. If we get such a result, will it be time to send the Mater Deis and St. John Bosco's to a national tourney with programs of their own ilk like IMG Academy and Bishop Gorman?

Seems about right. I was thinking maybe the come out flat, but it seems like they have done a really job in the past of taking care of biz from the start.

Lolll.. de la salle been beating the brakes off Grenada, Livermore and Foothill for decades.
Now they wanna send mater dei away? Unbelievable

No one From DLS is complaining about playing MD…. They actually believe that they are about to go down there and beat MD….

Even DLS’s Coach told the Mercury News “This team can compete with anyone in The Country”…..

This is the game DLS wants, Not D1AA or any of the others….

The post is about someone complaining. I was speaking to them.

The coach OF COURSE is gonna say they want this game.

How about adopting a new strategy where a playoff winner absorbs the best players from the team they just beat and continues to do so as they move on. That'll put DLS or whichever other program faces MD or SJB each year on more even footing. 🤣

In all seriousness, IDK why anyone takes this game seriously. MD and SJB are not playing by the same rules as everyone else. They are realistically recruited up college teams competing against real HS teams. Nobody should be surprised by the result.

Why don't we just take up a collection of the best JC players in the State and have DLS play this same game? What would be the difference??

Let's take the College Football All-American roster or all the players drafted in the first few rounds of the NFL draft and have them face off with Oregon or Georgia. It's the same thing.

What is sad is this should be the mecca of all games. But in reality, I have little interest in watching it. The Pitt vs Lincoln game should be fabulous and that to me is more of what I'm calling my state champ game. MD /SJB are pulling kids from all over the country. DLS is pulling kids from Antioch, Vallejo, and Concord. Big difference. Likely kids and parents are getting paid and have all sorts of under the table perks. That isn't going on at DLS. The two teams couldn't be more diff. Even when I played DLS back in the Toomer days it wasn't like they had 6"4 300lb lineman across the board. They had 6"1 195 guys with superior technique. I'm not crying about it but I just have no interest in watching a historic mismatch and I don't think I'm alone here. Hope its closer than 41 but I don't see it being a game.

de la salle has a movie and won over 100 games using the same method. now all the sudden
It exactly the same method. DLS doesn’t take transfers. They don’t recruit nearly as relentlessly. Not too long ago, someone posted a bunch of the top local players over the years who were in the DLS recruiting sphere, that went to play at public schools. Even mentioned a couple of local kids playing for MD. Not the same at all

Been following that program since 1979, along the way have learned a few things. A guy I graduated HS with is the Dean of another East Bay Christian Brothers High School. Interesting conversations about admissions and what some of it is based on.

Don't forget that DLS has a different coach too. Lad had Lara dialed in. Additionally, the MD culture is much more disciplined than the LBP culture. Coach Lara has a disciplined educational structure, an environment of excellence and assistant coaches that have experience in the MD culture. I don't think there will be much of a Lara factor.

I'm sure DLS will bring some special plays especially designed for the game. Serra tried (and failed) to do something to rattle and shake their opponents. DLS will try something more sophisticated than Serra's attempts.

In the end, though, it won't work, IMO.

Davidson's dad moved him to S Cal before high school for a better opportunity. Kids are all over the state experiencing similar circumstances. This list is a far cry of a roster of kids from all over the country. Look at Riordan, you will see similar circumstances! FACT is most of the kids on Mater Dei roster are 4 year kids from So Cal.

If you look under the hood of the big 3 in Nor Cal these last few years, DLS, Serra and Folsom you will see a pattern of out of the area kids also. DLS has housed kids from Sac and surrounding areas in the past, as has Serra (their QB last season) whose family lived in Sac. And don't get more started on Folsom.

They recruit very aggressively in pop warner circles. MJD does a ton of it in pop warner and 7x7 travel ball. Do some research on this and come back and let me know what you find out.

People have real short memories

Mostly, Allen has tried to mentor and indoctrinate newcomer McKenzie into the De La Salle system this season. McKenzie transferred into the perennial national juggernaut before this season after living in Wisconsin. His dad was an administrator with the Packers for 18 years, the last few as director of player personnel.

I haven't watched the OPEN for numerous years now. As I alluded to before, it's like watching the World Series of Poker for 3 hours except knowing that the deck is stacked for one particular party.

IDK if people know about or remember this, but from 1934 through 1976 the "College All-Star Football Classic" was played between the reigning Super Bowl Champions and an all-star team consisting of college seniors from the previous season. The advantages of this OPEN game are far greater than that. It's a complete joke.

How any player or coach from MD or SJB feels like they really accomplished something escapes me. If I won a game of monopoly knowing I stole money and property from the bank, I wouldn't be on cloud 9 or bragging about how great I was.

hmmmm...
LBP is an excellent educational institute, with top notch athletics as well. your assumption is as far off as it gets about LBP, but i can assume why you think such.

likewise, your praise of all things glorious with the catholic led institution of recruiting nationwide in multiple sports can be spelled out here...

DLS is in the Bay Area, Chris Henry played in Ohio in '23

The LA Times ran a story earlier this year on how they were getting transfers from Ohio, Washington and Florida for the '24 season, that's all over the country the last time I looked at a map

Chris Henry is widely considered the #1 WR prospect in the country. And, yes, he is from Ohio. Transferred for this Junior season. He's currently committed to his home state Ohio State Buckeyes.

Most semi-knowledgeable HS fans know what's been going on for most the past decade. How or why anybody tries to argue otherwise escapes me. They're drawing dead.

It’s fine when DLS does it but everyone else better not that’s cheating LOL. Grown men are actually implying this

Get your head out of the sand. DLS was never drawing kids from all over the country. Not even close to being comparable to what MD and SJB are doing. But even then, yes, there were lots of folks complaining back in those days that they were more of a Regional All-Star team. Well, MD and SJB are Megalopolis All-Star teams, bordering on National.

Just stop already. It's becoming impossible for anyone to take you seriously anymore. You used to be a level-headed poster.

You talk about "grown men". Start acting like one instead of an ignorant, biased, and emotional teenager already.
