DLS v SMS-Stockton, Live on NFHS, much better video than the JV game

FUMBLLLLLLLE! But Sparty somehow recovers. 2nd down.

QB keeper, another first down…. on the 10, I think.

Perkins gains 5… 2nd down and well, okay, 6.

Greer takes the pitch, goes left, down to the 2. 3rd down.

Handoff straight up the middle gets a cloud of dust, a few bruises, and no yards,

4th down, QB (Dermott, I think?) sneaks…. SCORES!

PAT good…. 31-16.
I thought for sure DLS had turned it over

#2 of SMS down again… I think he was the returner, not a QB. Looks like cramps. Kickoff returned by him to 16, 5-yard penalty takes it to the 21. Refs are talking it over… that’s a wrong spot, say the announcers.

FUMBLLLLLLE!! Wild scramble for the ball, which the Spartans win. Flag down. Refs discussing. DLS personal foul. And an SMS guy is down. Ball should be spotted at the 43, and is.

#4 of SMS appears badly hurt…. Leg. They help him off.

Spartans run gets a couple.

Pass incomplete. 3rd and 9. Run stopped in the middle, 4th and 7…. Sparatns going for it…

Maeredith wide open, grabs the pass and gets to the 11.

Run left gets a few… 2nd and goal at the 4.

Pitch to RB going left…. makes the corner… Touchdown.

but it looks especially bad looking into the sun at a low angle like this.

Kick returned to about the 15.

We pause for this special bulletin… GIANTS WIN!

QB scrambles in the back field, all the way into his own end zone, gets rid of it, incomplete. Roughness flag on DLS, no ejection. SMS has it at the 30.

Looks like the same vantage point FBaddict, his friend and I had when Aquinas came to play at Owens stadium. Looking into the sun. I'm 20 minutes away and its a little hazy.

Now I spot #2 back in the game, he’s a running back for SMS. He;s tackled in the backfield, 2nd and 14…. Next down yields a similar result. 3rd and 16.

DLS 21-0 over SM in 2nd 1/2.... looks like Spartacus simply wore down SM....

Pass complete, to 4th and 10.

SMS punts, nice return by Berry, all the way down to the SMS 28.

Run up the middle gets it to a first down at the 14.

QB keeper to the 9.

Pitch to Barebr going right… and he bumps his way into the end zone. TD Spartans.

PAT good. 45-16.

Was kinda interesting sight beyond the end zone…. The endzone stands were assembled during the games.

Kickoff returned to the 26.

Run left gains 4…

Another run for a couple…. 3rd and 4.

Another dive into the middle nets almost nuthin’. 4th down. Wait, sideline warning, a SPartans tradition. 1st down at the 38.

QB keeper gets almost 10…

Fuble, but the QB gets it back. 3rd an 6 after the loss.

#2 of SMS odges a buncha hits and scores on a long run to the left…. but there’s an SMS holding flag. And #2 stumbled late in the run and is down.

finally caught the name, Jaden Marshall.

SMS punts, Spartans ball on their 27.

Su’eSu’e in at QB now for the Spartans…. hands off for a long run on his first play.

Out to the 43. Procedure penalty, first and 15.

Handoff to Barber…. BIG hole, immediately breaks thru and scores…. Running-clock time…. PAT good, 52-16. 4:12 of fast time left.

HUGE SPartan hit stop the returner in his tracks at the 16.

Witht eh clock running, this is probably how it’ll end.

This game reminds me very much of the first DLS game I ever saw…. 1984, I think…

Sparty was behind by something like 13-3 at the half, to St. Mary’s… the OTHER one in Albany.

Spartans won the 2nd hald 47-0 to win 50-13.

Su’e Su’e has got a great build for basj\ketball…. I wonder if he plays?

Well, DLS definitely changed their tempo and effectiveness the second half. The offense seemed more like itself. My opinion is still out on their defense. But definitely they are not ready for SFA or possibly even Folsom.

Actually was 17-16 at half, wit SM throwing goal pick on last play of half. They should have been up. Final was 52-16. Whatever adjustments were made by DLS at halftime worked 35-0 second half. Just another incredible system Team good athletes who are fit and play 4 qtrs. Not a DLS fan but always amazing to watch them

"Not ready for Folsom"? It sounds like you are putting Folsom in the same class as St. Frances Academy, which is crazy! I would say that DLS is a definite underdog vs. SFA, but based on the DLS second half play vs. St. Mary's, they should have no problem with Folsom.

Not sure if you were referring to my comment. No I'm not putting Folsom at the same level as STA. When I said "...definitely they are not ready for SFA or possibly even Folsom.," I meant to imply a step down in competition from STA and wondering if DLS is even ready for Folsom. I put STA a tier or two above Folsom.

But definitely they are not ready for SFA or possibly even Folsom.
I agree. They are not ready for Folsom.

I called the DLS demise a few years back to friends of mine. With a major shift in demographics in the area, they eventually won't be able to pull the kids they need to, in to the program to dominate like they have.

If you want to see where all the D1ers are going in NorCal, come into the SJS. It's insane the difference.

I'm getting ready for the showdown of DLS@Folsom... I'm not referring to game as much as I am these wild Folsom fan posts. If Folsom performs poorly, there must be 50 ways to excuse them:confused: And if only 2014! But if Folsom wins, look out:eek: This proves 2014! And see who was the REAL winner of the 2018 game!

Folsom 37-28

One angle on this, while DLS has several weeks in which to get better and more consistent (like they do just about every year), they also face Folsom a week after the battle vs. SFA. I'm guessing Sparty might be banged up a little after that.

I'm not using this as an excuse if DLS does get beat by the Bulldogs, but this may just be Folsom's very best chance to get the job done. If they don't, they may never do it in decades.

In any case, I still have DLS winning a hard-fought game.
