Even with the addition of Dougherty Valley and Dublin this season, the line of discussion is still who will come in second place to Carondelet. Seemed like the pre-season consensus was that California was in the best position to claim that honor.

Then Dougherty Valley beat California and San Ramon Valley beat Dougherty Valley. And none of them have faced Dublin (3-0 against other league opponents) as yet.

San Ramon Valley at California on Friday should be interesting.

What statement San Ramon Valley made is they have a pretty good up and coming team. I don't think it means California (who was probably caught off guard) and were too focused on preparing for Carondelet that they under estimated Dougherty Valley. Dougherty Valley is still searching for their identity. But you are right, all the other teams are aiming to claim a spot in the top 4 with hopes to bump off the favorites Carondelet.

Dublin has yet to face California, San Ramon, or Dougherty Valley to my knowledge. And I believe are still playing without Mel Finau one of their top players whose injured.

Carondelet may have the better and most complete team, but no one should be taken lightly. Because Carondelet could make the mistake of letting a team hang around too long and find a way to steal the game late in the 4th period. Hopefully Carondelet will take each quarter seriously until the opponent(s) are soundly put away.

Hopefully all teams remain and/or become healthy so they each keep improving to give themselves a chance to play at their best.

California won by 6. Some great play on both sides. Not sure we have a clear indication of who has the stronger team, though. SRV frosh point guard Paige Gerhart had to leave the game in the second quarter with a possible concussion.

Amador just beat Dublin 51-42. The EBAL this year is just screwy! Livermore beats AV but then loses to Foothill and Dublin. Any team can go down on any given night. I've seen Cal play and they were VERY good!

Agreed. "Any team can go down on any given night", except Carondelet.

While I agree Carondelet should't lose to anyone in league they can't take anyone for granted.

Even NBA pros have off nights and Carondelet is not even close to an NBA level team. They can not let any team hang around long enough to get the confidence and belief that they can pull off an upset. Because upsets though rare do happen. I still think as I have said at the start California will be Carondelet's toughest matchup. Their next up. Carondelet has to do exactly what they did in the Dougherty Valley game and that is handle their business so they don't have to be concerned with anyone else's.

Then Carondelet has to see how they matchup with the rest of the league such as Amador Valley, Dublin and others. Again as I said in an initial comment the league is Carondelet's to win or lose. But they must continue to handle their business and not get too full of themselves.

Celebration needs to be done in the last game in March. These games are to get you in position and prepared for the March madness.

Pros have off nights because other pros make them have off nights. Payt you are saying all the right things as a coach and as a parent. In fact, Respect should take lessons from you on humility and sending the right message to his kid. All that stated, take the blinders off carondelet will win the league easy and even if they have an off night and don't take teams serious they will still win every game by 20 or more

I agree with 95% of what you said. But the fact is performance is not something that is guaranteed from CYO to the NBA. The best scorers and best shooters in the history of the game have off shooting nights and shooting slumps that have absolutely nothing to do with the defense they are facing. A 3 point shot on average is just a 48% at best shot (and that is being very generous because of Curry, Klay and Durant) in the NBA. Without those 3 video game shooters the average would be about 38 %. And the 3 point shoot is just a 30% shot in girls high school on average at best regardless to the defense. And that too is being generous. That is why it isn't wise to rely too much on continuing to win by only preparing to out shoot your opponent from the 3 point line. I think it is similar to why the NFL changed all the rules to create more scoring and an easier time for the offense when they saw Bill Walsh presenting the flashy and exciting West Coast offense. It was done for excitement(to create momentum) for fans, viewers and revenue. Excitement and momentum. That is what is often created when the 3 pointer goes in. Excitement, that is what separates going to watch an exciting basketball game in a warm gym to going to watch a boring 1-0 or 0-0 tied soccer game out in the rain and cold. Hype, excitement, and momentum, but no guaranteed victory.

Nobody will give Carondelet a game this year in the EBAL. Not even close!

Unfortunately that is often the case year after year and it has made Carondelet falsely appear to be super powers. Not that they haven't been challenged but rarely beaten in league play. Carondelet has settled too often for just being satisfied being league champs and perhaps winning the NCS Championship. Not sure when the last time they pulled off an upset like going into SMS and winning to a national power like that. I know they have years ago won a state championship. I am hoping to see a change in focus and higher goals are set with bigger challenges and expectations. Because when you only live up to expectations your not very impressive in my book. It should be about "exceeding expectations" and raising them. Perhaps this year can be the start of a new culture for the team and school.

If Carondelet wins D1, they are in the Open; if they finish second, they still might be.

The new committee could decide overall strength trumps one game's results.

Carondelet will clobber California. California will not be able to handle Carondelet"s press. They couldn't handle Clovis North"s very well and it's far less challenging

I think Carondelet should focus on where they will be seeded. The open is where they will be and where they belong. Carondelet needs to continue to build team chemistry, confidence, and improvement from their coaching to the last person on the bench. That means from top to bottom for those who at times like to get things a bit twisted. They should be prepared for the open. If they prepare for the open and for some highly unlikely case they don't get put into the open they will certainly be prepared for a Division 1 run.

Build team unity, unselfishness, and accountability.
