The biggest difference between the men's and women's game is turnovers -- and I think it's primarily because girls never play pickup basketball.
In pickup, especially 3v3, you handle the ball all the time. And if you don't handle it well, you lose. (It's Darwinian -- you realize turnovers get you off the court, sometimes for an hour, so you evolve.) Girls, though, usually just practice or play organized 5v5 games, and some girls never touch the ball.
Drills are fine, and set plays are fine, but turnovers at the lower levels come from lack of experience handling the ball in game situations.
