Folsom vs ODOWD updates

I wasn't at the game so I'm not able able to speak about that but I think before the season many expected this matchup to be for the championship in the open division and it seemed all season Folsom underwhelmed, they beat the teams they were supposed to beat, lost to some teams we thought they would beat and some games were closer than expected. After Folsom beat El Cerrito many including myself thought that maybe Folsom would give Odowd a challenge.(I didnt think they would win but maybe they would make it interesting)while it's true every team will have off shooting nights but big time players have to step up in big games. Did Ford step up?(asking question not being sarcastic). If he scored 25 and they still lost that makes a differance really no shame in losing to O'dowd but it sounds like Folsom didnt show up and the game was never in doubt..Just saying.

In regards to O'dowds coach I think we forget that he followed 2 legendary coach's and there are some in the Odowd circle and beyond who never really taken to him believing he's like Phil Jackson who wins but only because he has studs.Guess we will see what kind of coach he is next year when Austin and Rabb are graduated.

Gaucho - The tone was set early in this one. 2 dunks to start the game off from Odowd. Message loud and clear. Not only did Boise St get a steal in Austin but N.Arizona in Thomas. I see a lot of upside for that kid. I don't know him but I really like his demanor. He just seems like a real level headed player. Rabb is on another level. He is a future NBA top 10 pick. No doubt in my mind. He is as skilled as any player offensively at 6"10 that I've seen in Norcal since Drew Gooden. And you are right. Big players have to show up when the crowd is in the stands. We just didn't have that last night. But keep in mind you have a senior led Odowd team against a junior led folson team. That experience makes a big difference. Wall didn't make his 3's. Andrews didn't make his 3's. Ford didn't make his 3's. Finch missed some looks. These were good shots too. Some more contested and others werent'.

As for the coaches the only coach I've ever really ragged on is Mcknight from MD. I think that one is self explanatory. There are great ones in our area and bad ones as well.

Any weaknesses for ODOWD? Not many. You have to pick up Austin full court and hopefully have a 6-2-6'4 kid that can guard him. He scores effortlessely in transition but in 1/2 court sets not so much. They don't have a true 2 guard in the sense but that is about it. If kids like Zhou come in and make open looks because you have to double Rabb then you can forget about beating ODOWD this year.

Best team in CA without a doubt.

Paris is a gamer, and took advantage of opportunities when they came. Tres not 6-2, 6-4 but he has long arms and great footspeed.
Paris only scored 3 points on Tre, He literally shot 100% when Tre was out the game or not guarding him. Tre was stuck to him like glue and Paris had no penetration all game. Folsom was double teaming Rabb and had a good defensive scheme after half but Folsom's ugly shooting made the game look ugly. Anxious juniors from Folsom wont beat a team who have been prepped to win a State title but BoD is definitely beatable

FLAGRANT,
Are you still mad Folsom beat Sheldon?

Get over it...You lost

As for the game against O'Dowd...The better team won. I hope they win state.

Go Folsom!

Legend -Thanks for the overview of the game sounds like Odowd dominated from start to finish....Now on the Modesto Christian thread many are saying they think Modesto Christ.will hang with BOD ,i just don't see that happening.Modesto has beat a murderers row to get to the championship but I have Odowd winning handily.

Who are the Favs down south to face BOD in open championship?

Im not a closet fan or do i root for any of the teams, i know players and coaches from both side and respect them all. I just state the facts and like i said many on the board last year said some things and are not owning up to it pertaining to Austin. No need to comment on Rabb. But what about the development of Thomas?? I saw him play this past summer and he is not the same person i saw in July. He is the X-factor like Farley was last year. Gorman, Montverde, Oak Hill, Wheeler, state champs and national champs. All on the schedule, after i seen them play Gorman i knew it was over for Nor cal teams. The only team that has the size to disrupt them somewhat is Modesto Christian, and that will be a tall task indeed. No know against Folsom, it didnt matter.

You are 100% correct about Tre. He is an excellent defender who gave Paris some fits early. Ford is not on that level defensively. Tre is a better athlete as well. I was saying ideally you have some length to guard Austin. That helps. I think Tre can play somewhere at the high D2 level.

I also thought Hendricks played tough in the post against Rabb. Nothing came easy. That kid will have a bright future in college football. He has a great frame.

One thing that hurts MC is they have no depth. Not sure now but when I watched them they played like 6 people and it was a thin bench. Anybody who gets in foul trouble and it could be over. Townes ia a lot better than Russell. He plays 6"9 with his athleticism and arms. He will not have a problem scoring over Rabb nor will he be intimidated like Russell was. Not saying he's an elite player like Rabb but I think he can be effective. Wu is a good player for MC as is Ellis. They have a solid backcourt. I say ODOWD by 13. Maybe I'm too optimistic.

South. I look for Bishop Monty or Fairfax to move on. I really like Bishop Monty. They play incredible defense and are so well coached. Stephie Johnson Jr kid is a nice player. (going to oregon st)

Hey LL. I respect your opinion as a basketball mind. But again, notice how your last post was phrased. ..."so well coached", yet there is a great player there too... If O' Dowd wins it all will it be because they too are "so well coached" or just because of Ivan and Paris? Does Stephen Johnson Jr downgrade the coaching excellence of their head coach? I don't believe ANY player on Modesto Christian can claim they won't be hard pressed to score over Ivan...

Thanks defender. I think its safe to say Odowd is just damn good. Well coached, great players, good kids, etc. They play hard and do all the little things. That is one heck of a team. Period.

Austin was the best player on the floor last night. No questions about it.

I enjoyed all the comments about the game...an interesting forum. I was hoping Heat would chime in, but I can see he has gone into hiding. Poor Fella!

I'm going to give it a couple more days before I chime in. And because I was absolutely certain about the outcome and the point margin (from a prior prediction), I actually took some mental notes during the game and later transferred my thoughts to paper. It would be great if someone could post the game on-line. I mean the season is over, posting shouldn't be a big deal now. And of course you can expect a whole different perspective from me for those who were not at the game..but for now, I need to dwell on it a little longer.

Dr. Legend,

I don't believe Jordan
Ford gets enough credit and gets positioned as clearly as the linchpin
for Folsom. Sure they need to hit shots but Jordan needs to run and own
the floor. I'm not sure I've seen a kid of his caliber (possible 2016
Mickey Dees AA) less identified with the success of his team. That not a
knock on anyone or anything but just a statement. It's likely an easy
comment to say O'Dowd brings a more athletic team in a more friendly
environment but I felt, all along, Ford held the keys to Folsom's
chances.

Just my $0.12.

Peace

Hi theNewPea,

I think you are dead on in many regards in terms of how he is talked about on this site, but I don't believe it means anything negative. There is no real need to talk about Jordan in the manner you speak of because Jordan is already established. Jordan has a larger than life reputation In the Folsom and the surrounding communities at large. We know who the man is and we expect Jordan Ford to come through every time without exception. Also, Jordan gets plenty of appreciation and respect from his local fan base. And again, Jordan receives plenty of respect in the local and regional newspapers. Every time, I open the damn newspaper it seem Jordan is on there. LOL. The Sac Bee awarded Jordan player of the year...and honestly Jordan is the strongest candidate this year because he wins! Jordan is not starving for Kudos! And Yes, Jordan was the key to Folsom's chances to show that the team can play with Bishop for at least a half.

Jordan, who has come through over and over again in big games, I'm sure Jordan would tell you himself that, "I just didn't get it done...this time, but I'll be back!"

Gaucho, From what I've been told is that Ritchie won't be there next year. He's a package deal with where ever Rabb goes, just a rumor on the street and probably be a bad rumor but I wouldn't put anything by anyone associated with the Soldiers/Olivier.
