Jesse Freitas Jr. the record setting QB from Serra was found deceased in his car in Petaluma on Tuesday apparently of natural causes. Freitas played at Serra as the QB in '67-'68 along with NFL player Lynn Swann and CFL player Tom Scott in '68 when Serra went 9-1 and was ranked #1 in NorCal. In 1968 Freitas was the MVP of the WCAL.

Freitas enrolled at Stanford but left shortly after where he played and set records at San Diego State.
Drafted in the 6th round of the '74 draft by the San Diego Chargers Freitas Jr. found himself playing behind Dan Fouts from St. Ignatius whom he had competed against in high school. Freitas left the Chargers after his 2nd season ending his career in the NFL.

Jesse Freitas Jr. still holds the following passing records at Serra High School:
* Career passing yards of 3802.
* Most completions 264.
* Most TD's passing 45.
* Most completions in one game 22.
* Most yards in a game, 14/26 - 356 yards vs St. Francis 1968.

Read this earlier and thought how sad that he battled mental illness. Quite a coincidence that both QBs (Fouts and Freitas) were on the same NFL team in the same positions and competed against each other in the WCAL.
