How bad is CAL in hoops? Lost by 24 to Chaminade.... If they lose to Northridge all hell breaks loose over in Berkley. No wonder Cuonzo bounced. And Karma is a bitch. Michael Porter Jr is out for the season!!

My chico state wildcats would beat them. They are for real. Took Stanford to the very end a couple weeks ago. Tied at half.
Marcus Lee is horrible. Never got better.

Oregon state looks much improved. The Thompson's are going to be a lot of fun to watch this year. They look very good right now against St Johns. Doesn't look like Ben Kone is in the rotation. Is he hurt?

Speaking of Oregon State, let's not forget about standout Alfred Hollins of SF (Sacred Heart/Hillcrest Academy). I hope to see an SF product out there!!

Oregon state is improved but not real good either. Cal is flat out embarrassing. All around a down year in pac12...Oregon, Utah, cal, UCLA all much worse then thru were a year ago.

Cal would have been better if cuonzo didn’t leave, Charlie Moore leaving really hurt them as well. When you got a school with a brand new head coach that didn’t have much time to recruit and has no real resume it’s hard to convince players to come play for you

Agree about pac12. UNLV put a whooping on Utah lst night. Oregon state is much improved and will be a tough out at home. Arizona is so much better than anybody else it's not funny. (But they just lost)
Cal is a joke. Not blaming current coach. Be surprised if they end up .500 overall this year and they have some cupcakes coming up. St Mary's looks to be the cream of class again in Bay. Nice to see Jordan ford starting.

Cal's athletic budget is in deep trouble. The Bears cannot afford to pay for big-time coaches and their staffs. The money simply isn't available due to that huge mortgage payment on the Memorial Stadium complex. Recruiting budgets are also impacted. So expect to see more California kids playing for the Bears, whether those youngsters are worth Pac-12-level scholarships or not.

Budget are not there are plenty of local kids that would’ve been better recruits than the trash they have now. I look at thier roster and it’s a joke!!!

Cuonzo is a modern day John Thompson ll

He new exactly what he was doing when he first got to CAL. I believe his contract Doubled actually may have tripled at his new spot. Coach C. built a great personal brand, just hope he's successful. I hope Cal can be descent at least but the standards have been high for so many years.

Cuonzo had no intentions of staying or building a program. Guy had zero ties to the west coast. The financial situation in berkley is a mess. Totally agree. That stadium is crippling the athletic dept. Not sure I would compare John Thompson to Cuonzo. Maybe the comparison stops at their skin color. Thompson stayed at Gtown for years until he was ousted and he never wanted to leave. Cuonzo is living the american dream. Next best opportunity and he's jumping.

I will tell you how similar Coach Cuonzo is to JTll. To start off, Coach Thompson is 3 or 4 shades darker than Cuonzo so color isn't the similarity. Cuonzo has a "Thompson Way" of mentoring, protecting and caring for his ballplayers in a way that's overly effective. I had the opportunity to personally meet Coach Cuonzo at CAL and his commanding presence, when he speaks to you, you know he cares. He's of course, not as tall at JTll, but his muscular presence is what makes the difference. Cuonzo left because of the items you before mentioned. Had CAL stepped up their game, Cuonzo may have stayed. But, there's an ole sayin that states that you can't squeeze blood from a turnip.

... and money makes the Division I wagon roll on ... it's all about the moolah, boys and girls ... and Cal, sadly, doesn't have enough to be a factor in men's hoops and football...

Cuonzo, for the record, made a great impression in the Bay Area in both Low-End(Oppressed) & High-End(Privileged) Communities. No one, of course, is perfect, but he was quite visible and he made a lasting impression on me.

Sorry Cuonzo was in the bay area for about 30 months. He is virtually forgotten because he didn't do very much and wasn't here long. One NCAA tourney and they got bounced in the 1st round. Money talks. He got a sweetheart deal at Mizzo. More money in dirt-cheap Missouri. One could only imagine what you could buy for 700-800k in that area.

CAL could be the worse team in Pac12 this year. I'm wondering who they are better than? WSU just beat St Mary's. They are much improved. Oregon State looks better and healthy. Washington is rebuilding... ASU is 5-0. Maybe stanford? They aren't very good.
