Golden City had their 17U and 16U teams' practice live stremaed by Simply Basketball over the weekend. Here were a few takeaways from the 17U group:

One of the big surprises was the play of St. Ignatius’ Sabrina Ma, who outplayed her No. 23 ranking. At 5-foot-10, she is a high-level shooter, strong, long-armed, quick and likes contact, Golden City director Armando Pazos said.

Bishop O’Dowd 2022 guard Amaya Bonner (No. 1 in the 2022 class) has improved on her jumper to go with her ability to get to the basket. “She is one of the best shooters in the program,” Pazos said.

Lick-Wilermding 2022 guard Annabel Schneiberg made a big jump in the post-high school rankings to come in at No. 10. “She’s a good shooter, smooth player and runs the pick-n-roll extremely well,” Pazos said.

Salesian 2021 point guard Alexandra Alvarado is a Division I point guard prospect who plays hard, knows how to run a team and can pick up defensively the length of the court, Pazos said

I love the way Alvarado plays. Not sure if she's a D1 guard, but she sure can run a team and fun to watch.

I think Sabrina Ma is underrated. I'm not surprised by her performance as I have seen her make her mark in quite a few games. Thanks for covering it.

Playing the advocate here: it cool with all the AAU programs posting rosters and having practice, but where are we playing? no viewing period? cases going up? what is all this for? possible high school ball not til jan?? ;)

My perspective: There is certainly risk involved, but the amount of kids/coaches at a practice is pretty small compared to what a full season/regular club tournament would produce.

What's interesting to think about is how will AAU tournaments look like in the future. I once went to Chicago for the Nike tourney and there were thousands of people in the gym at the same time. I bet that moving forward (at least in the near future) the gym will be ONLY coaches, players, and refs. Once kids are at a location, will they SIP or go out and visit the city/area they're in? there's too many other variables for AAU to host a tourney in the near future...

Look for the over involved mom/dad to volunteer to coach or do the book so they can watch lol

There was AAU in the Sac area this past weekend. According to my co worker who has a son who plays for an east bay high school. She said they played.

We just got shut down yesterday from doing skill sessions at Windsor High School. And we were implementing a pretty strict protocol with waivers being signed by player and parents, masks worn upon entry to the gym. Also, temperature checks and Covid-19 symptom questions being answered before being allowed in. Everything was also being logged for record purposes.
Each girl had her own ball which was sanitized before practice and they were at their own baskets for shooting drills. Six baskets with 6 girls per session. Some dribbling drills using full court but never anyone within 10 feet of another player. Unfortunately that's not good enough in this crazy time we are in. I can't imagine when we would be able to actually hold a practice.
