Grant looked really good this weekend, double digit wins in every game.

Vs.
Beyer, Central Catholic, Brookside, Bear Creek & Saint Mary’s (Stockton)

Grant should make a ton of noise this season. Size and youth last year and still made a nice run. I could see them contending for top 2 spots in SJS.

It was a great back and forth game between Grant and Beyer with neither team leading by more than 5. Grant ended up taking the win at the end by 4. Both teams looked very good. Beyer with 12 threes, and Grant with 10 plus dunks.

IMO, sjs is extremely down. I also think Grant is better in the summer then the fall due to eligibility issues.

What are you saying? “ Black kids are all dumb” Typical thought pattern, they were all eligible last season. “Man”

How do you get all of that out of "eligibility issues"?

Besides your first statement said "double digit wins in every game"

Then beyerhoops corrects you with " grant ended up taking the win at the end by 4"

I'm not sure if your aware but 4 is a single digit. I feel you may have struggled with some eligibility issues. Grant has had some bad luck (in the past)losing smoots (injury) but I still feel Grant lacks discipline and I couldn't see them as a top team in the section. Beating MC, Sheldon, those are top seeds to me. I think Grant loses by 10-15 to both.

I'm curious if you have examples of last years team showing a lack of discipline? I'm only asking because I saw them play a few times and for a team with only one senior, that didn't seem to be an issue.

Agh you got me. I really can't give you an example.

How about losing to a 14-13 Monterey trail and a 13-11 inderkum. (Both teams were bad) going 8-6 in the delta when you should only have 4 losses. 2 to Sheldon and split jesuit and franklin). OH AND MY FAVORITE, didn't Grant have to forfeit a bunch of games a few years back something like an "ineligible player" I know that wasn't last season but since we're on that subject.

For those who would like to know, bad shot selection and unforced turnovers all fall under the category of "lack of discipline". St Mary's did not have the talents like smoots or Oliver, 2 years ago but they were very disciplined and well coached. If Grant wants to be elite you can't lose to teams like MT and Inderkum. Comes down to discipline and coaching. Grant gets the talent and athletes and they fizzle out every year. Am I Wrong?

Yes you are wrong with the fizzle out. Grant is in the league with Sheldon, Jesuit,Franklin and have consistently competed. All of the for mentioned teams were top 6 in division 1. Grant beat Inderkum by 20 a week before and in a rivalry game where the schools are 4 miles apart things happen with kids. Not sure if you watched St Mary’s last year but they had 2 division 1 players and made 18/22 free throws in a game that was a 4 point game in the last minutes. By the way your years are way off. Smoots and Oliver never played together and as a freshman Smoots was the leader of a terrible team It was 3 years ago with the forfeits and it was a kid that CIF cleared and with some complaints from schools within the league they reversed the decisions saying they had a lack of information. To defeat a strong Riordan team and the #1 seed in Antelope that never recovered from that lost with no seniors was a good run. They led most of the Alameda game and it was youth and experience not descipline. Let’s also not forget that the coaching staff with a first time head coach has only been there seven years and before this staff arrived they were irrelevant for over 15 years.

Only 7 years? That's quite a while in todays High School landscape. That's almost 2 full classes. By year three the program should be fully the coaches. I think Grant is a solid program etc but only 7 years is not a small amount of time.

Please correct if this is wrong, but Grant has a 6-7 2019 named Marvin Pitts who attends the school but didn't play last year. He's playing AAU this summer.

Is he still at Grant? Playing? Or at another school?

He attends Grant but doesn’t play on the team....the 6’7 high flyer for Grant is DeeJuan Pruitt

Pitts started at Grant as frosh, transfered to Inderkum played Football (jv) n Bball (var) as a soph, then moved back to Grant for junior yr. He had to sit becasue of CIF transfer rules, not sure if it was 30 days or whole season.

Who said anything about smoots and Oliver playing together? I said they had the talent of those guys, AND did NOTHING with either one. Don't say Grant is a contender in the delta when they lose to bottom feeders like Davis and MT c'mon man. Your reaching.

Literally Grant's entire team returns. They were very young last year. They can be a top 10 norcal team this year regardless of division and #1 in D2. I'm not saying they are in Sheldon's or MC's class but don't be surprised if either team gets a very close game next year and a win is not out of the question.

Oliver had a torn ACL the year Grant lost in the finals to a loaded Antelope team after upsetting Sac High the number 1 seed. Oliver’s Senior year Grant lost to #1Folsom by 1 point and Oliver fouled out on some controversial calls including a technical as he was low bridged. And yes Grant lost in the finals this year against St.Marys by 6 in a virtual home game at UOP where St Mary’s took almost 30 freethrows. Those bottom feeders your talking about all beat several league champs but unfortunate for them they weren’t in those leagues. You think if the Kings were in the east they might have gone to the playoffs in the last decade. Just sayin
