Cal Hi Sports reports it appears that St. Joesph of Santa Maria will be in Northern California Open.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
From Cal Hi Sports:
Riordan fans and others in the Bay Area also may have to check their maps about getting to Santa Maria since this is increasingly looking like a season in which the CIF will be putting St. Joseph in the north and as the top seed (with home games) for the NorCal bracket of the Open Division.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
CCS-1 Winner of CCS Open
SJS-2 Winner/Loser should get invite
NCS-2/3 Winner/Loser and Dela Salle or Salesian if they lose a close game.
CS- 2 Winner/Loser Clovis North is defending D1 champion. St. Joesph looks like the favorite in CS again this year.

Three weeks of intense play is shaping up to the Playoffs.

Generally, only 5 or 6 teams make the cut, perhaps this is a year that will have 7 or 8 invited.

Same could be said for SoCal.

Very Possible Scenario. LINCOLN OF STOCKTON is #1 CA STATE D1. #1 in SJS Section. IF, just saying Lincoln loses in the Semis to a MC or Inderkum. Would it be out of the question to put

MC/ Inderkum - Winner/Runner up. AND throw Lincoln of Stockton in as well even though they didnt win the SJS???

I think ALL 3 Teams are worthy of an open BID

I wouldn’t count out Clovis North should they meet St. Joseph for the CS title. SJ was heavily favored last season and CN won by a good margin.

I really hope Riordan gets the #1 seed. NorCal finals in Santa Maria just sounds crazy

Riordan would be behind St. Joesph at this point.
Don’t think where they play matters to teams like Salesian, Riordan, DLS and St.Joseph’s. Interesting, though, as Riordan’s SOS is higher than all the other NorCal teams at moment per MaxPreps.
Also, I would think they would need to have the game at a larger venue than St. Joseph’s if they do end up hosting the NorCal Open Title game. The gym looks like it holds 300 people tops.

I'm pretty sure no Open team cares where they play as they're battle tested.

If St. Joesph hosts, they can move to Santa Maria High School holds 3500.

If Clovis North wins CS as they did last year, then Riordan winning CCS would likely secure them the #1 seed.

Question is how many, Nor Cal Open teams get invited being this year is very stacked.

I saw St Joseph’s and Clovis North at Crush in the Valley….I think St Joseph’s on a good day is about 20 pts better than Clovis North and on a bad day maybe 5-10 pts…..point being I don’t see anyone in their section even coming remotely close to beating St Joseph’s.

And St Joseph’s will be the 1 seed in CIF NorCal Open, followed by Riordan at 2. De La Salle, Salesian and Inderkum would probably be my 3-5. 6 could be a number of teams.

I know they like to limit it to 6 but if they did 8 this year, I wouldn’t be mad at it.

6 is a good guess, I think they go 8 this year with top tier teams playing each other and the addition of Central Section.

St Joes, Riordan, Clovis Nortb, NCS winner and runner up, SJS winner and runner up and last team from EBAL. Total 8 teams this year.

No particular order. Think EBAL so deep, wouldn’t be suprise if they get 2-3 teams in Open.

I don't think the number has been any different than six since they started Open.

Even though this year has maybe 8 or 9 deserving teams, I'd be surprised if the number wasn't six this year.

If they stick with six teams, the Central section would probably going south.... I think...

There’s no question the EBAL is deep. Dublin is 21-4, and in 5th place in the EBAL!

But, only 1 team will come out of the gauntlet of the EBAL playoffs unscathed, and if Salesian wins the NCS Open then that’s another loss for every EBAL team. Things will look a little different by the time the NorCal seedlings come out.

In 2022 Campo #1 had 7 teams in. Then in 2023 only 5 teams selected. 8 teams in 2018

I miss the days when the NorCal Finals were at Arco Arena. Shoot even NCS used to play the NCS championship at Oakland Arena. Having that big of a game deserves at least a nice college venue

SAC-JOAQUIN SECTION Boys/Girls championships D1-D3 are still at Golden One. Section and State Championships were held at Arco which was always a good ticket!! Parking was a little wacked. Loved the atmosphere!!

Interesting you have the Winningest Open Nor-Cal Team NOT getting in?
You have Inderkum and Lincoln over Modesto Christian?
Based on what?

CCS plays their championship games at Santa Clara University. The Open was played one year at the Warriors G League arena in Santa Cruz and another year at Stanford.

Big win for MC tonight over Lincoln (Stockton)…now they have beaten them twice. So would be hard to have a bracket where MC doesn’t take Lincoln’s spot.

Probably will see each other a third time in the Championship, unless Inderkum has something to say about that…..

Congrats to MC but why in the world Lincoln doesn’t foul Gavin with a foul to give on his game tying Layup to go to OT . He dribbled from half court to basket uncontested.

Gavin was fouled on the shot. #2 reached for the ball and made contact, Gavin is too strong!!

playing in that big of an arena, with no fans and the large court.... it isnt that good of a thing for the athletes... it takes getting used to and with the title on the line its too much that could go wrong

I think what H.E.A.T meant was to foul Gavin BEFORE the shot, interrupting his drive and making MC have to start offense from an inbounds pass.

I agree about the huge arenas thing... Would be nice if they could find a 5-7000 capacity arena available... But then, would be nice if I found 10 million dollars on the street.

Besides, every once in a while, 10-15,000 seats isn't enough, and it's hard to guess in what year an unusually huge title game like that might happen, certainly not far enough in advance to plan for it.

Best (or maybe least bad) choice is to make sure you have a place to play that's plenty big.
