In a strange defensive, low scoring game, Vista del Lago (12-4) defeats Christian Brothers (14-1), 34-29. Christian Brothers (CBS) suffers its first loss of the season.

CBS is ranked #3 in the Sacramento area by the Sacramento Bee newspaper, primarily due to its soft schedule strength.

Vista del Lago's (VDL) four losses this season came from McClatchy (SacBee #4), Whitney, Oak Ridge, and Colfax -- all strong Sacramento power teams, which is reflected in VDL's much stronger "strength of schedule" of 14.0 versus CBS' strength of schedule of only 8.8.

Any thoughts on St. Francis-Christian Brothers today?

This should be a good close rivalry game. St. Francis' (13-3) three losses came from McClatchy, Clovis, and Antelope. St. Francis has a win against Oak Ridge. So St. Francis can beat CBS. But CBS will be fired up at home to avenge last night's loss to Vista Del Lago, which was broadcast on TV on Access Sacramento cable. So it is too close to call.

Final: CB 55, St. Francis 32. Jada Hunter had 21 for the Falcons, who despite their unimpressive SOS as a pundit underlined, dominated from the opening tip. First quarter was 24-8.

Mustange76: You must be a Christian Brothers (CBS) parent, alumni, or fan. I try to be objective and be a fan for all Sacramento area teams (representation), since most posters here cover the Bay area teams.

It was an impressive beating that CBS gave to St. Francis. Never close from the start. St. Francis even had a decent size cheering section inside the CBS gym to motivate them, to no avail. CBS was fired up after the strange, low scoring defeat they suferred the day before against Vista del Lago (VDL).

Having said that, CBS should go very far in the post season playoffs. Barring an upset, I see them being the Sac-Joaquin Section D2 finals against VDL. The only other teams within the SJS at the D2 level to give CBS and VDL competition is Woodcreek (16-3) and St. Francis (13-4).
(Note: two seasons ago Antelope was a SJS D2 team--since last season they are a SJS D1 team).

At the NorCal/CIF playoff level, again CBS should go very far (even with competitive equity). Several of D2 Bay area powers will probably be placed in the Open or D1 division: Mitty, Salesian, BOD, and Acalanes. That leaves CBS as a NorCal D2 frontrunner. I believe CBS has a good chance to stay in D2 in the NorCal playoffs due to their "low" SOS. This is where not getting respect will be to their advantage. We will see.
