SH wins 66 to 60 in last min. JEFF battled and stuck around. TQ played his heart out for Jeff.

Jeff had the ball down 63-60 with 10.5 seconds to play. SHC fouled immediately and Jeff missed the front end of a 1 and 1.

Was a game of runs. Jeff led 20-16 with 4:50 to play in the 2nd quarter when SHC ran and ran and ran. They outscored Jefferson 19-2 to lead 35-22 at the half. After making a 3 to take a 38-22 lead, Jeff hit 4 straight 3 pointers to cut the lead to two at 38-36.

SHC took a lead of 55-42 early in the 4th qtr before Jeff went on an 11-0 run to again cut the lead to 2, 55-53. The game went back and forth the rest of the way.

At times, SHC looked really good, but at other times they looked undisciplined especially on defense. Frankly, Jefferson played harder and that was most evident on the boards.

BTW, where were the SHC students? Jeff fans outnumbered SHC at least 2-1.

The stakes were too low for them to show up. A win is a win. Survive and advance. People stop focusing on the defense. Because there is none. The defense is get other team in an up and down game and wear them out. Hit layups and 3s.

other than a bruce-mahoney event, they simply don't care. a lot of things play into this. Less city oriented fan base, multiple sports, with single-minded approach, parent demograhic; kids and parents more academic driven v. supporting athletic, kids don't have access to cars like they used to. Little push from admin.

We would've packed the place.
As I recall Irish upset Jefferson in first round of CCS in 1972 in front of packed house at Jeff. Then crowd base went onto Hillsdale, then onto Maples Pavillion. Same could be said for Riordan the next year.

They played Hillsdale first. I never heard of the win over Jefferson being an upset before. Irish beat San Joaquin Memorial 74-61 in pre-season. They went on to win the TOC.

CCS Playoffs

W 51-38 Hillsdale

W 48-43 Jefferson

W 64-57 Silver Creek

W 54-48 Alisal

Stop focusing on the defense? That's about as foolish as one can get. SHC only loses 1 major player so they should be pretty darn good next year IF THEY FOCUS MORE ON DEFENSE and rebounding.

BTW, the new lighting in the gym at SHC is fantastic. Best I've ever seen at any high school, with the possible exception of Menlo which is equally as good.

I noticed that too. The LED's are much better than the old lights.
You're right about the defense also. If they could get some size and rebounding, they would be a much better complement to their offense.

I mean you can complain all you want about the defense. Its not their strength. Just look at how many times they gave up 70+ points. There were a couple times the opponent almost hit 100. So you can criticize them all you want, they just arent a defensive team. The way they win is by getting into a shootout. Different styles makes different fights. I will take a wild guess that SH led the league in steals this year because thats how their "defense" works. Go for steals, get more transition baskets because they are not running any offense either. 3s and layups on three, 1,2,3... 3s and layups!!!!

Is it true that Coach is thinking about leaving because the commute is getting to be an issue for him? Just a rumor

He only has one job. Basketball coach. He does this from mid November until maybe early March. He does not have to commute 5 days a week from August until June. So this commute issue burden you speak of is highly unlikely.

Their defense is horrendous. Period. The fewest points they gave up in a WCAL game was 58 points to a poor St. Ignatius team. What's worse is the EFFORT both on defense and on the boards. If you aren't able to see or understand that...

I think that concern is what everyone who commutes to SF complains about constantly but not necessarily the reason for anyone to leave solely.

Anyone who lives outside and works in the city has this concern, but I doubt if he leaves it will be solely due to the commute..lol.

Get Morseck from Riordan or another big to transfer next year and the whole narrative changes...just saying:)

Yes sad...but this basketball team is missing a 6'6 guy or taller, if they got that person next year, the Defense will be much better, its harder for a smaller team to keep the fast pace without some muscle.
