Laguna Creek (16-1) followed up a 61-45 win over Monterey Trail with a 59-55 victory against McClatchy on Friday. With only one upperclassman on the roster (junior Jasmine Blunt), present day is good with a potential historic future for the program.

Sophomore Ahrray Young is a do-everything big guard. Sophomore Zoe Tillery and freshman Malea Egan provide ball handling and shooting. Sophomore Lesieli Manupule brings size and physicality to the front line.

Laguna Creek, which won the Pearl Division at the West Coast Jamboree, has only lost to Mitty (75-21) this season.

The Cardinals will be on the road for the next seven games including a three game stretch against Lincoln-Stockton, Monterey Trail and McClatchy from January 25-February 5.

Huge win and congrats for the Laguna Creek program and good for the Metro League. With no seniors, one junior, and the rest sophomores and freshmen, watch out going forward for the next three years. Laguna Creek is an excellent replacement for the league after Sac. High left the league. This should help with strength of schedule ranking calculations for all Metro league teams, and perhaps playoff seedings. Laguna Creek will be a major force in the Sac-Joaquin section playoffs. However, next season, I would like to see a more challenging non-league schedule against some of the local city and Norcal powers. Laguna got killed by Mitty losing by 54 points, but have nice close wins over Vanden and now McClatchy.

Wow, what an impressive win for Laguna Creek. I was wrong, they are ready this year to make a huge splash in Sac. This was a great high school game and atmosphere. I thought McClatchy would have the experience and depth, but LC was the team that played with poise, energy, confidence, and made the right decisions down the stretch. They play as a team and know their roles. Young is real deal, and they got great contributions from the rest of the team. McClatchy didn’t have good shooting night and forced shots and drives with not much ball movement. Looking forward to this rematch game.

LC is the real deal. Ahrray Young is a grown ass woman against little girls, she is a beast. The best Soph. around, D1 talent. Along side Zoe Tillery, great range and great court vision. The team only has one Jr. and NO Sr. they are a problem. the league they are in is a buzz saw with MC, MT and Grant
