It was the largest loss by an AP No. 1 team since January 2020, the Gamecocks' largest defeat since the 2019 Sweet 16 and their first road loss since December 2021. The Irish led wire to wire and had USC fans heading for the exits with 4:48 left after using a 16-2 run at the start of the fourth to jump ahead 21. It was Notre Dame's first double-digit road win over an Associated Press top-five opponent since February 2014."
USC starting guard Kennedy Smith will be sidelined indefinitely after having a surgical procedure.
"Her status was announced shortly before the third-ranked Trojans hosted No. 6 Notre Dame on Saturday. Freshman Kayleigh Heckel was making her first start of the season in Smith's place.
USC said Smith is expected to return to competition this season. The freshman from nearby Chino was averaging 10.3 points, 3.8 rebounds and 2.0 assists in four games. She last played Nov. 15 against Santa Clara, recording nine points and five steals in the victory."
