This is a gross exaggeration and patently untrue.
There surely are some that didn’t want to face them, but “some” doesn’t represent all.
I believe most programs that are good enough to qualify for a D1/D2 Regional in a given season want to face the best. Those that don’t represent the minority.
Look no further than the programs that have actually scheduled or tried really hard to schedule DLS over the years.
I’m very confident that had the Regional games started far earlier than 2012, programs like Grant Union, Elk Grove, Nevada Union, Palo Alto, or any of the programs in the WCAL never would have complained about having to play that game.
If they weren’t good enough to win it, they weren’t the best team in the North thus weren’t deserving to play in what’s considered the premier bowl game. That’s how those programs and their head coaches would have felt about it.
