Great game with Liberty pulling off OT win 28-27 on blocked CVC FG to match Liberty. Watching Liberty it seems they are not executing close to last year. Clayton Valley needs more balance although had 82 yard screen pass on 4th and long with 1:41 left to tie the game.

Based on last couple games it isn't given Liberty is #2 in NCS. Maybe Monte Vista or another EBAL team? Pittsburg may not be as down as thought after Serra dismantled Menlo Atherton.

It’ll be interesting to see the results of Serra v. St. Mary’s-Stockton next week, as Pitt, Serra and SM all will have faced each another.

And then SM faces DLS in a few weeks.

CVC coach says that it wasn't the kickers fault, quote from CVC HC.
“I’ve lost a state championship and two section championships because of PATs,” Clayton Valley coach Tim Murphy said. Asked if he considered going for a two-point conversion and the win, Murphy answered, “A little bit, but I was like, until my kicker shows me he can’t do it, I’ve got to go with him.”

This botched PAT had less to do with the kicker and more to do with how the snap was handled. It's possible they may meet again in the NCS playoffs. They gave Liberty all the could handle...

Interesting Quote. He lost to Folsom because he refused to kick PAT’s and went for 2 every time. Lost a state title because of a fumble and a lack of defense at a critical times. Either way sounds like they aren’t taking all “3” phases seriously.

From multiple players & parents - Great game against Liberty and we played our hearts out. "But honestly it's time for a new coach"

Clayton Valley/Overfelt is an intriguing matchup. Don’t know much about these guys other then them winning a league title last year boasting an 11 win season.

Liberty is a different team than last season however Akili Calhoun all league OT not playing due to injury, Transfers dont get to play till game 5, starting RB Brenden Bell hurt last week as well as their starting WR Cody Muth. going to be curious how they look in league, once calhoun comes back, 6 '5" Transfer and J Jackson comes back see what this team looks like.

Why do you think this might be an intriguing matchup? IMO, this is a mismatch made in heaven for CVC. I mean no disrespect to Overfelt, but in truth the Royals haven't played anywhere near the level of ball as CVC in its 45 year recorded history. Its 1998 season might be the closest when Overfelt won the CCS DII championship with 11-2 record. But I must say that even in their best year of 1998, Overfelt was a far cry from current CVC standards. Interestingly, Overfelt was coached by Joe Cattolico that year.

This week's game will be a landslide win for CVC. All players, if they are suited up, should get to play and if Overfelt can score even one point, it will be a freak mistake on CVC's part or against their low depth-chart players.

From what I saw I think the value of Vaki last year may have been under estimated. I went to this game hoping to see a more game changing quarterback than I saw last year in Butterfield. Especially after Mclemore ran around and picked apart Pittsburg for Serra. Mclemore is just a better quarterback in my opinion. Butterfield is good. I just think the Serra QB is better.

Regarding the 6’5 transfer to Liberty, word is he was suspended for the year. So looks like he should have stayed at Heritage. Jackson the running back is supposed to be cleared when BVAL starts.

The Monte Vista game will be very challenging and can have tremendous playoff implications as Liberty, Pittsburg, and an EBAL champ fight for the 2 and 3 seeds. See you at Heritage for this one since renovations at Liberty aren’t done. Should be a nice Brentwood night

Not intriguing at all.....will be a running clock about 15 mins into the game

I believe from what I have seen the Salinas QB (Carl Richardson) may be better than Butterfield. Butterfield is very good but he was exposed a little against DLS (I was standing on the sidelines and seems he was lcking on receivers and not quick at recognizing open receivers). His team last year was all around better than they are now, and get a good rush on him and it impacts his throws. The receivers are more coverable as well and less threat at RB. maybe that will change as season progresses but Liberty isn't as good overall as they were last year at this stage. They are still a good football team, but Clayton Valley seemed to be just as good. Monte Vista may give them a very tough game.

Using a DLS game as comparison for another QB that didn’t face the same level of competition isn’t a great scale. Agree that pressure impacts his throws and that his skill players a year ago were phenomenal. Salinas QB has to do a much better job of taking care of the football than his 23 to 14 TD/Int ratio a year ago. Off to a good start but laying over 70 on anyone doesn’t speak to high level of competition.

Somewhere I read Overfelt had tons of D1 bodies and led the section in total yardage last year.
No D1 recruits to speak of - although it is true they had over 5k yards last year, it was among opponents of very low caliber. Their record last year was 9-3, losing to Burlingame 49-12 in the D4 semi-finals.

Salinas QB is better in my opinion. Seen both play several times. Both are good but I would take Salinas QB. More mobile and very live arm. It also seems NCS is down this year.

Liberty and Overfelt scheduling a game makes zero sense other than if both teams had games cancelled and only could find ech for an open slot. This game is a as big a mismatch as Liberty versus Gilroy last season. This game should never have been scheduled. If Liberty plays CCS teams they need to stick with top tier teams in its A leagues (i.e., WCAL, DeAnza, PCAL Gab, PAL Bay. MHAL) and even in those leagues there are maybe 8 or 9 teams and more like 3 or 4 teams that would make sense this season.

Liberty isn’t playing Overfelt, CVC is. That doesn’t make the matchup any better though. You’re right, it never should have been scheduled.

Overfelt knocked of a Good A league Piedmont Hills squad. Spectators said several players and coaches were ejected which may be why Overfelt got worked by Palo Alto. The Royals can really run the Rock while CV is coming off an emotional loss. Stranger things have happened.

They’re going to get worked again by CVC ejections, suspensions or not

The CVC vs Overfelt is typical of a CVC schedule. They routinely schedule fairly easy with little challenges for the bulk of their non league games. They usually have one marquee matchup with a bunch of push overs. This year it was Liberty. Difference for this year from years past is they are actually in a league they should be. Sad thing is they will play D2 playoffs while being clearly a D1 program/team

Cough, cough.... Doesn't this tactic sound familiar? Just plug in a certain SJS team for CVC and the equation is solved.

OK - if you are an Overfelt supporter, I can understand all your comments. A single focus fan must support their team. But if you are a CVC fan, it is clear you are just sandbagging. A general HSFB fan? Well, just stick around a while.

No one in the MHAL is any good.

Educated? Uncovered sandbagger? True Royals fan? Either way, it was indeed a mismatch made in heaven for the Ugly Eagles.

Guess you guys were right and I was wrong. I will say the Royals were in the game until the opening kickoff. A few breaks, they could of held them to 50. I’ve now realized the PH Pirates have become the screaming shits. I always have a sweet spot for the 98 Royals. Hopefully there is a two year agreement and the Royals will rebound.
