Lick-Wilmerding @ Menlo-Atherton

One of the coolest things I've seen in a very long time.
I was there for the Dougherty game against MA @ 8pm but showed up early and
watched Lick erase an 8 point MA lead to take the lead by 8 for most of the 3rd and into the 4th.
You just knew that the #1 seed was going to make a run and that's what they did to put the game into overtime and everyone in the building except for the 10-12 girls on Lick and their coaches thought this game was over. Lick battled and battled and in the end, upset the #1 seed. I was cheering and screaming and was so happy to see this monster upset.

Congrats to Lick-Wilmerding and boo to the CIF for over ranking MA and under ranking Lick!!

I dont know if I'd say MA was overrated but I did see Lick play a couple of times this year and the CIF DEFINITELY underrated them. 16 seed was ridiculous. Good win for Lick!

I think Lick-Wildmerding was very hard to judge because of their weak schedule (7.8) and lack of quality wins ....

EXCEPT that preseason win over Menlo-Atherton.

Nonetheless, M-A's schedule was almost twice as difficult, according to the computer, and teams that don't play other top teams are difficult to seed correctly. Sometimes a weak schedule hurts a team, and sometimes winning a ton of games gives a team confidence that they will find a way to win just like they have all season.

Clay, I agree but they should stop looking at the computer and start going to games or get input from each section reps that watch these teams closely.

I saw them play too. who did you see them play? They didn't play anyone, but had a great record. I think that's the problem..they look good but against who? I hope this is a lesson to those coaches that won't challenge their teams in the preseason...especially if the league is weak (SJND example).

Lick probably would’ve got a higher seed but they lost earlier in D4 sections because their PG got hurt. When she’s healthy they are hard to beat.

Lick beat MA and Moreau Catholic and were seated behind both of them at 28-2. That just seems like a seeding mistake to me.


And Lick beat Urban 3 times and Piedmont twice and I think those are decent wins. We arent talking about D1/Open level powers here... they are a D5 squad I think right? I honestly think they were probably mis-seeded... if Moreau got a 10 Lick should have at least gotten no worse than that

@Norcal_Fan To add to what @northbaybbguru said, MA is the #1 and Moreau is the #10 seed in DIII even though LW beat them both in the season. They lost a good game to St. Mary's Berkeley in the D4 Section finals. I think for DIII they demonstrated some strength. But they went out and let it be known by knocking off the #1 seed. That's the best statement you can make. Hats off to LW.
