I'm one of their hardest critic but they will get nothing but respect from me on that win last night. With that being said, I get the "Donkey of The Day" award for going against them. From highlights that I saw on the game it looks like they played flawless. Before the game I had picked Centennial to beat DLS. First time I've went against DLS in my entire life. I had them against the Florida teams and they lost. Same thing with NJ, WA and now Texas.

Moving forward I still don't see DLS beating these boys back south unless they get more athletic in their skill position game. They get those Bay Area superior athletes I have no doubt they could beat these top notch southern programs. Those of you that don't know, the #1 HS in the nation from Georgia "Colquitt County" is a freak'n machine with more athletes than Centennial. Colquitt has three or four Boss Tagaloa and at least three Devin Asiasi on this years roster. I have a younger cousin that's a total freak on the youth level and lives in Colquitt County district.

*HSFBFan444, I'm checking on Colquitt County pre-season schedule on a daily. So as soon as I know it I will inform you.

That's what I like about DLS ... they are willing to challenge themselves playing teams like Colquitt County... thanks for keeping me updated... hope they schedule a beast next year!

Wood be nice if CC played somebody tough. Great of program.

But Uncle Rush is known for two things, smooth with the ladies and only answering that phone call if he pretty damn sure he can win the game beforehand.

Here's what I would say- Teams from the west are at a clear disadvantage going south or East in August or September. You can simulate heat by training in the summer, during the day, etc but you cannot simulate humidity. I regularly take teams south and east in another sport and humidity is what will get you. You can tell a kid to sit in the shade in Arizona and he will cool off. He can sit in the shade in Fla and it's still hot as hell.

The combination of first game, humidity, and jet lag puts them at a distinct disadvantage.

People that have never experienced 100% humidity and go into that environment have no clue what they're getting themselves into. I guess you could train for it by sticking a treadmill in a sauna and have players run uphill sprints on it.

CC is playing IMG of Florida next year ... I believe its a kickoff classic

Now this I can agree with. But last summer there wasn't that much humidity in Georgia. A lot of rain but very little humidity.

Can't make a good assessment watching highlight's.
Its obvious to me that they don't actively recruit as much as people claim. If they did both Joe Nixon and Najee Harris would have been Spartans.Pretty telling that 2 5 star ribs that are from East Contract Costa would not have been handed free rides to DLS.Think about that .

Can you name ONE player on DLS that received a "free ride" to DLS??

No I can't, and that's my point. Not to my knowledge. You would think a powerhouse program like that would stay on top by feeding their program with the best local talent available.

I can't help but wondering how a public school like Centennial practically every year is playing in or for the Open title while negotiating through the likes of St John Bosch,Matter Die,Long Beach Ply,etc. Is this the result of a change in demographics down south similar to the rise of a league like the SSOUp North?

That's SFL, not SSOU

And here's where the problem lies. If DLS had skill position players from the bay with Nixon and Harris talent they would be untouchable in my honest opinion. Since they don't get those types of skill players anymore I don't see them beating too many top notch southern programs. They'll compete and beat some but I wouldn't bet on them to win over 60% of the time.

I was out there for 2 weeks in July. Been going out that way 20 years in a row. It was a little down but let's face it, it's miserable in the whole southeast as a rule July-September. The east and Midwest are not much better at that time.

You have to have Thorobreds to compete with Thorobreds or it makes it tough. That said, you can't tell me that those southern programs are better than CC or SJB or Bishop Gorman. It goes back to travel and weather conditions. Play these teams on a neutral field with normal weather and they would beat them IMO.

Open districts and very lenient transfer rules. Combine that with excellent coaching, a big school, and good demographics. You can compare it a little to the greater Sacramento area where young families are migrating.

I would also add the lack of hitting and camps that California teams can no longer do during summer work outs

lets clear up one thing...dls lost to trinity not because of the heat but because they leaned forward and arm tackled instead of putting a body on their runner. they had their chances to win that game and didn't. maybe a lesson worth learning for later...since they didn't give up a touch down on defense for about 10 games...secondly dls' skill players match up on the field with any of the opponents i saw. some individuals from other schools may have more talent but the technique and intensity with which dls db's, runners, and wideouts display (watch their wideouts block) is more than ample to let them compete successfully against out of state teams. if you need an example, centennial's wideout did not experience the same kind of success he did last year and custer snatched their runner from behind (who is going to u of a) and was able to wrap him up. (that can cost a kid a scholarship offer getting caught from behind) he should never have been caught from behind. dls competes well with those teams on almost a yearly basis. remember you're talking about a school that is 7-3 in state championship games and has represented norcal every year. i bet trinity wouldn't want to play dls right now. dls has taken on the best in the state and nation and has represented their program and norcal well. they don't have to defend what they do in or out of state. especially since they're kids. dls made a lot of good teams this year spit blood.

Who else can come anywhere close to winning their State Championship 7 of the last 10 years - all against a National top ten opponent- with 9 of those 10 games 400 miles from home.

I agree with a lot that you have said but not all. Now I have a few things to say. Yes DLS had their chances to beat Trinity but one of the main reasons they didn't is because they lacked superior skill position players. You make it seem as if Trinity well coached superior athletes didn't play a factor in this game. Will I'm here to tell you they did. The wide outs for DLS are pedestrian at best. They didn't bring any thing to the table against Trinity. Had DLS receiver caught a crucial pass that was on point for a TD DLS would have most likely won that game. It shouldn't take 8-10 weeks of great coaching for a legit DB to compete against a legit WR or visa-versa. Coaching, technique and intensity beat a very athletic Centennial team but I doubt that will do the trick against a very athletic well coached Southern team.

So far I'm right in this regard because when was the last time DLS beat a very athletic Florida or Texass team? Now I give them credit for beating a mediocre Byrnes team from South Caca_laca but that's not Georgia, Florida or Texass football. Like I said, if DLS had the athletes that Centennial has year end and year out they would beat the best Southern teams in my opinion. Football starts up front but if you don't have superior athletes in the skill positions you will struggle beating well coached teams that do. For DLS to compete with these very well coached Southern teams they need very athletic skill position players. Fact. Once they start getting these types of players than they should take their show to the South. Right now don't do it because it's becoming embarrassing to Cali football.

Even Nick Saban and a few other well known college coaches said Georgia plays the best HS football at the present time. Would love to see DLS go after these top notch programs but they need to do better in the skill position area of their game. And btw, Colquitt County coach Probst is the ex Hoover coach from Alabama. Probst won multiple state titles at Hoover. Here's the article. http://www.maxpreps.com/news/NdSbpU...own-with-second-straight-georgia-6a-title.htm

Every high school team has non 4 star recruits. Even your hallowed schools of the south. The reality is that they are the core of your team. If your counting on your best athletes to define your team your heading toward a disappointing season. Both trinity and dls had great players that has nothing to do with dropped balls or poor tackling. Just as I'm sure trinity's coach was wondering how those pedestrian receivers were getting wide open and dropping the ball. To use this argument to suggest that dls shouldn't schedule teams from the south because of their skill players is shortsighted, faulty logic at best but more likely simple ignorance. To suggest that the performance of dls embarrasses California high school football is an idea that can only be held by an idiot. Their performance itself negates the supposition. Bet you can't find one coach that wouldn't scoff at such stupidity. Merry Christmas

Around this time of the year DLS can get with anyone. Centennial might have very well beat DLS had they played early. The Spartans that played the other night were almost unbeatable. DLS vs CC was hands down one of the best high school games I've seen. They played at a legit speed and skill level. Im no expert on football in the south but the level that both those teams played at the other night would be formidable anywhere in the country.

Guys that was basically a national championship game. I would have DLS or CC play anybody right now and I'm betting on them. A lot of these southern schools have guys like Javon McKinley who can become non factors in a HS game. (DLS made mc kinky a non factor). At college level with a 6"3 qb who can throw downfield that won't happen. Don't underestimate guys like Custer. They may not go on to star at Alabama but at the HS level in a system they can be virtually unstoppable.
Like I say every year. Hard to bet against those Spartans.

Elprup- I remember you from way back and you definitely have some insight that none of us have here. I'm going to take umbrage with you on an item and you might agree- I've always found it funny when defensive coaches complain to their guys that they need to stop arm tackling. The reality is that the guy with the ball was a step quicker and the defender couldn't get where he needed to be. The Spartans were a step slow due to travel and humidity. They beat Trinity by two touchdowns if they play today

Nick Saban might be the biggest BS'er of all the time so there goes that. Lakeland and a Louisiana team came out this way and DLS handled them. Bottom line- These are kids and they are not used to travel. They certainly are not used to humidity. I know those conditions through personal experience coaching in national tournaments out there for over 20 years. It absolutely saps you.

I think they beat them in a rematch as well, but you only get one chance and that's the really good lesson for those players. But they wouldn't have beaten them because the weather change, they'd have beaten them because of their improvement in their performance. I think building a team is a process and if your players aren't ready you pay a price. The success of this team I think was not giving in to their disappointment and taking apart four good SoCal programs.

My debate teacher in college explained to his students that as soon as someone starts slurring words of disrespect he/she loses the debate. So I'll take the lessons from my debate coach and move on because you want see me use "simple ignorance or idiot" when the points I made are factual. I don't have time to drop the "I" bomb on you to start an argument over what I've seen for my own eyes. I'm from Cali and I'd be the first person to want DLS to beat these teams from the South but until they get better athletes in the skill positions they will struggle beating the South best. Now you can argue with yourself with the DLS excuses to why the Southern teams beat them.

NCSF, I don't think DLS beat Lakeland. And that game was played on DLS home turf. Louisiana play good football but not on the level of Georgia, Florida or Texass. Just sayin. Here's a link to the Lakeland and DLS game:http://articles.sun-sentinel.com/20..._1_spartans-state-championships-rocco-casullo

The Lakeland game at DVC was a close one, OT. Lad went for 2 on a PAT to win it and it failed. Lakeland stood up to the Spartans. A serious moment happened when an ambulance took a Lakeland player off the field to John Muir Hospital, after a trailing crack back broke his sternum. He went home a few days later.

Talents doesn't always necessarily win games. Its heart and discipline that wins the games. De La Salle made a lot of mistakes in that game and that resulted in their loss to Trinity, not because of the talent that Trinity. Come on, get real man.

You can have heart and discipline but if you don't have the horses, you don't win- period!

No you get real. You want us to believe talent doesn't win games? Are you this clueless??? It's heart and discipline that doesn't always win games. We're talking about teams with elite coaching and talent on the field and if DLS doesn't match that talent they need to stop schedule Southern teams. Totally agree with NCSF because if you don't have the horses to run with these teams "YOU DON'T WIN." I don't care if Pete Carroll was coaching DLS he would have taken an "L" as well. Bottom line is DLS need better skill position talent to beat these southern teams anytime and anywhere.
