Despite referees attempt to be the storyline a talent dense game between M- Trail and M- Christian had playoff vibrations
MC lead throughout with MC baller "believe the hype" Sykes scoring 1/3 of MC points (28) in a 83-71'win.

I really enjoy how the refs who do WCAL
League play allow players to play thru some contact that League is officiated as a top League should it's a big boy League and it's officiated as such I cannot say the same
For the EBAL or DFAL League play as many quality teams and players that are in those Leagues you leave alot of those games talking about officials I get the players and coaches have to adjust to how a game is being officiated and most coaches just want to know are you going to let us play or call
It tight not one way for part of the game then something different as the game
goes on.

I was there, had a perfect view from several rows above the scorer's table for the main incident in question.

Just before the half, MC had about an 18-point lead, and Monterey Trail had the ball. MC's coach went up to a ref (I assume the head ref) and instructed him that they were going to use at least some of the "take fouls" they had at their disposal.

Everything seemed fine up to this point, but as soon as an MC player put two hands on the ball handler (not even close to a hard foul), the ref (a different one, btw) called an intentional foul tech.

As one might guess, MC's coach was livid.

MT takes its free throws, gets ball again, again MC player makes a two-hand foul, once again, nowhere near a "hard foul".

MC's coach was FUMING. I mean, REALLY fuming... I could see a coach pulling his team if it had been one of those June scrimmages, he was THAT pissed.

MT took more FT's, tried to get off a shot at the buzzer, but missed. I think this whole mess gave MT 3 or 4 "free points".

Interestingly, as I came back from the bathroom, I passed by Brice, who knows me (No way I would have talked to him if we didn't know each other). I said something like, "What were those refs thinking?", Brice agreed with that...

But I did comment (with a smile), "But then, why the take fouls with a 20-point lead?" Brice smiled and said, "Well, you have a point..."

The game is on NFHS, a GREAT feed... I'm gonna look again. :) There were announcers, I wonder what they thought...

Just went back and looked at it... Announcers seemed to think that though the contact on the first T was light, that maybe it was because the MC player may not have made an attempt to get to the ball. Announcer was trying to be "pc" about it, and said even with that the call was odd.

The second T may have been legit. Even though contact was light, it was probably before the play started.

In any case, though, it had little effect on the game; MC played a lot better, and they won comfortably.

The discrepancy in officiating typically hurts WCAL teams come Sectional and Regionals as the teams are called for fouls usually not called during league play. I wouldn’t mind this just as long as the refs state beforehand when the team captains meet before tipoff that they will be calling a tight game.

tell your players to stay on their feet. And dont swipe down.

I don't see what the comments by ArmchairGOAT on the officials in various leagues has anything to do with the subject, a Monterey Trail v Modesto Christian game. neither is in any of the leagues mentioned.

But yeah, stay on yer feet, MOVE the feet, stay in front, don't swipe down... 100% on-point in any conversation.

I've been watching Gavin Sykes since he was ballin' for the yellowjackets out of sac. Just a stud. With him and a few other pieces you always have a chance. @kiddman32 , did you have a red jacket on ? I think I caught you on the live feed a few times.

So do now go.....
1. Modesto Christian
2. Lincoln
3. Monterey Trail
4. Folsom
5. Inderkum
6. Franklin
7. Sheldon

Folsom has a win over Lincoln and there win over Mater Dei looks especially juicy considering MD just beat SJB.
Honestly, I think you have a year where any of those teams can beat anybody on any given night.

I did have a red jacket on... But the camera was behind me, looking over. Mayyyybeeeee if the camera aimed down at the visitor's bench, I could have been barely in the angle, bottom right corner. Like maybe when MC's coaches were so ticked off at those T's just before the half.

That's a solid list. IMO Franklin and Sheldon are not making a d1 playoff run but between the other 5 it is pretty wide open. MC doesn't have a real dominant team like they usually do but I wouldn't be surprised if they found a way to get another blue banner.

Agreed. I would really look at the MT/Folsom tape if you want to learn how to bother Folsom. They did a great job of using there physicality. Folsom gets hot and they can play with anybody. I don't think there is a team that shoots the ball as well from behind 3 and all there guys can do it. Heck the 6"9 kid will hurt you from there. But MC has a history of peaking at the right time. Looking like they could be in for another run....

Kiddman, it was def you. I think right before the MC /MT game you were looking up.

We added size with our transfers becoming active. Deeper bench than you might think.
Now with two plus 6'9 players at Center and two 6'5 and 6'6 forwards to add to starting 5 of 6'4 Sykes, 6'3 Jones, 6'7 Atkins, 6'6 Payne and 6'1 Dickson.

speaking about referees. The biggest travesty of the night was in the Vanden Lincoln game. Vanden lead pretty much the entirety of the game by as much as 10 . With about a minute ago Vanden big caught a lob to go up three . Ref called a technical foul. Giving the big his fifth foul. He controlled the paint the whole night. Two Ft and and a bucket turned a three point deficit into a one point lead for Lincoln. That call basically decided the game. Even though Vanden guard race down and got an and one to take back the lead with five seconds. Anthony More hit a three at the buzzer for the one point win for Lincoln.
