Most bizarre thing I’ve seen in football game

Sort of a long story so bear with me
Last weeks LACity section Dll championship game (D14 for state).
South Gate is leading Chatsworth 36-33 with 32 seconds left in the game.Chatsworth has the ball 4th and 1 on SG 10.They go for it instead of kicking a game tying FG and get stuffed.

27 seconds left SG ball on their 10 Chatsworth has two timeouts.SG lines up in shotgun to take a knee at their 5 Timeout chatsworth.Now under center they take another knee on their 3 but there is penalty that’s waved off.The QB immediately takes the 3rd down snap without forcing Chatsworth to use their last Timeout.

Now chatsworth calls Time out with 8 seconds left.4th down for SG on their 2.They decide to run around their endzone to kill the clock but there QB stepped out the End zone with 1 second left.

Now it’s 36-35 with SG kicking off from their 20.Now something I’ve never seen happens.The SG kicker lines up and kicks it sideways straighT along the 20 yard line behind his team mates out of bounds.
Not only has the clock not moved but there’s also a penalty on SG because he kicked it behind his teammates.suddenly it’s Chatsworth ball on SG 15 still 1 second left.

Chatsworth sends the FG unit on and kicks the walk off 32 yard FG to advance.craziest thing I ever saw in a football game

What was the thinking behind kicking it that way? Lol the losing sideline just stood there in utter disbelief of they had just witnessed. lol

The whole sequence was bad coaching imo.First the kid lines up in shotgun for the first kneel down.then nobody tells the QB to let the clock run after the second kneel down which is the ball game right there.Then nobody explains to the Kicker exactly what they want him to do.

I watched a podcast with the SG coach who basically took no responsibility for what happened.Blaming the refs for waving off the flag and saying he yelled in English and Spanish from the sidelines to the kicker to kick it down the middle.Which begs the question why didn’t he huddle them on the sidelines and explain exactly what he wanted

I can't imagine that ever worked in practice, especially the way the kicker lined up the ball.
