Newman loses a tough one to Monty in OT last night at Monty 66-63. Monty will play Windsor Friday night at SRJC for Champ. I believe of Newman's 6 losses 3 are to Montgomery. Keep in mind Monty beat Las Lomas last year in NCS and Newman has a win over a good Dougherty Valley team. Windsor, Newman, and Monty will be a tough out in D2.

I like Montgomery in the champ against windsor. I'm going to say 53-50.
 
Damn I was wrong again! I thought Newman had this one. I still think they are strong and like their depth. What happened to them down the stretch? Will they turn it around and be ok in NCS? @winetot @northbaybbguru @larry legend33

I'm going to have to go the other way on the championship game, I got Windsor 39 to 35 in OT. It'll be the third straight time this year Montgomery has to try and take on Windsor directly after a great BATTLE with Cardinal Newman. Windsor on the other hand has benefitted from not having as emotionally and physically demanding games right before playing Montgomery. No offense to the marrillo carillo pummaaazzzz

@kiddman32 - any chance you'll head up North on Saturday night to check out Montgomery and Windsor?
 
@DonniePeckerwood what are you putting in your latte? Because I would love some. Pretty good environment last night for a high school bball game....on a Wednesday....@northbaybbguru Newman brought a better crowd than the home team. Another classic battle. I am with @larrylegend33 and DP. Don't sleep on CN upsetting on the road 1st round.

Ok, so after making my initial prediction, I went back and did my homework a little bit on maxpreps(probably should have done this beforehand). Here's an interesting fun fact.... This will be the third straight year that Montgomery and Windsor will have met for a 3rd time! Here's what the wins and losses have looked like:

2015-2016 season: Windsor, Windsor, Monty(NCS round 2)
2016-2017 season: Windsor, Monty, Monty(NBL playoff 1st round)
2017-2018 season: Windsor, Windsor, TBD(NBL championship game)

Monty has won round 3 the previous two years, but I'm still sticking with the Jags in triple OT!

@DonniePeckerwood dropping facts from the East Bay All Day. Sipping that go go juice. @northbaybbguru didn't even come over and chat it up last night. I'm sure we'll chat it up Saturday. Hopefully has some insight on which teams from the stacked D2 division might go open division. Maybe @larry legend33 has heard something?

On another note, why is Newman in D2 this year anyway? No reason they should be playing there that i can think of. Team is lack luster this season.
 

Coach Taylor does do a great job. Windsor is fun to watch, great players and well coached.

If you're a fan of great coaching I'd advise attending some Cardinal Newman games. Bonfigli is a living legend, gotta be one of the best in Norcal history. Nearly 800 wins!

Hmmm, that's an interesting take on this year's Newman team. If anything, I would say that last year's team was lack luster compared to this one. A second round NCS loss as a 3 seed with the talent they had is the definition of lack luster.

The group this year isn't as talented, but they are deep and I like the way they fight and I think they'll be dangerous in the D2 playoffs next week! I think they'll get at least as far in NCS this year as they did last year!
 
No NBL Championship for Newman this year, multiple loses to Montgomery (was there a loss to Windsor, not sure) and booted out of the first round of the Shaugnessey? The two teams can’t even be compared.

Newark Memorial dropped down from Division 1 last year to Division 2 this year, so it's not really all that tough to drop down a level. We debated the wisdom of CN's move last year. I think they stayed in for the same reason they petitioned up. Here's a hint, Freud would tell you if it's not id, it's...

That 3 seed last year was completely unwarranted. In fact, the whole Division 2 seeding last year was awful. Not that I expect much better this year.

Lot of good basketball to be played in the next couple weeks. Really interested in seeing where the seedings end up falling. Who will be favored? Who will get hosed. Max Preps has all 3 teams ranked fairly high in the state.
 
I think all 3 teams (windsor, newman, and monty) will do well in the NCS. Obviously the winner of this game should get a very good seeding and have some home games. Actually the loser will as well. D2 is loaded.

Wtf... Traffic in the Northbay is horrible... Must have taken almost double the time expected to make it to Petaluma. Cutting into my trivia-playing time. :(

Dunno what Ricordo’s is, but I’m all about Buzztime Trivia... If they had that at Ricordi’s, I’d know about it. After triv , straight to the games!

Btw, Buffalo Wild Wings has lousy food, but all locations have Buzztime. And the Petaluma locale is the most-active Buzztime spit in NorCal. So I like to play here on the rare occasions I come up this way.
 
@kiddman32 The traffic can be pretty bad. If you're looking to get a little closer the game site, look up Ausiello's 5th Street Grill. Great food, and guaranteed to be multiple college games on.

Newman girls had a little trouble putting Monty away until late in the 3rd, but then they got that big run and kept it up thru the 4th to win 73-44.

They were up only 10 or so until maybe halfway they the 3rd, then they brought the HAMMER!
 
They don't have the trees like last year but there guards are very talented. Should be a good battle with Salesian later in NCS.
 
I think Montgomery's balance and guards will be too much for Windsor. And Evan Paulson is very versatile. Windsors bigs are tough but they aren't deep.
 
Monty built 5- or 6-point leads twice in the 2nd quarter, but the Jags clawed their way back both times (see what I did there?) and trail by just one at the half, 24-23.
 
Monty not done yet... They end the quarter strong, and it’s 40-38 Windsor to start the last stanza.
