Not sure who O'Dowd has beaten. Have lost to some really good teams but they don't have a win over a Top 20 program.

Castro Valley would be in the mix but split with Cal High who just lost to SRV. CV has the win over SRV but not sure what else they have for quality wins. Losing the second of two meetings to Cal High keeps them out.

Foothill of Sacramento and Enterprise were both in the same Emerald bracket at the WCJ, and neither made the finals. Foothill beat Enterprise by 20, and then lost to Cal High by 9, who went on to beat CV in the finals. CV is kept out by splitting with Cal, when Foothill is 0-1 vs Cal. Must just be the gaudy records.

SHC has played a VERY tough schedule but to put a team that's 4-8 in ANY top 20 is absolutely absurd. Outside of Lakeland Prep of Florida (who knows how good they are), who has SHC beaten to deserve an 11 ranking??

SHC has played probably the toughest schedule in California and also plays in the toughest league in California. If Edison is in at #14 (who beat #McClatchy by 11) and lost to SHC by 35 I guess you have to put SHC in. McClatchy also beat Heritage and Campo twice. Seems like SHC is in a very strange place. Not good enough to beat the open teams although not being blown out by all of them but a lot better than the next tier of teams. My guess is who ever did the rankings has seen all the teams play and thought SHC should have the 11th spot. On the flip side the only open team SHC will not have played is Pinewood. That will make the open CCS very interesting. If SHC get to the championship against Mitty will the committee take 2 teams or 3 out of the CCS.

Totally agree. Here's the thing...A team like SHC, who apparently ducks nobody is a kind tweener team. A team like this could do some damage in d1 and have some success. I wonder year in year out, how many of these teams would opt to an open division if given the opportunity AND not talking about only when they have strong teams. I feel bad for the public schools that are having a once in a lifetime stellar year and could get thrust into a higher division simply because they're doing good.

What good does it do SHC to play in the open and get beat first round? Absolutely nothing. This year it's not so cut and dry who will make it outside of the top few teams.

The good thing about not ducking anyone is that you can clearly show where you should or should not be placed. Teams still have a chance to peek at the end of the season so depending on what they do twice against Mitty and in CCS I'm sure will determine their fate. As a former player I would want to play at SHC because I know I would be playing against the best year in and out.

It's going to be interesting when the NorCal committee decides things ...

For example, let's say a team like SHC struggles early with a lot of losses -- due to injury or a tough schedule or whatever -- and winds up with a 15-16 record. But that same team wins its section title, say in D2.

So does the committee treat that team like every other D2 section champ when it comes to placement in NorCals, or does it treat that team like a 15-16 team? If the former, the NorCal placement would most likely be D1; if the latter, it could be D4.
