NCS Brackes

In the new 10 team EBAL only the "bottom 4" get an opt out, that being Livermore, Granada, Dougherty and Dublin for now. From what I understand SRV is lobbying to be in the bottom 4 because they went 3-7 but I can't confirm that's true.

So they expect to have Dublin step up and take one for the team in their first year returning to the EBAL so they don't have to play Sparty next year? I can't see any of the other 3 not being part of the bottom feeders. Just adjusting to the new league will be hard enough for the Gaels. Now if Dublin makes some noise in the NCS playoffs this year, then I could see there being some lobbying.

Who said anything about convincing? A win is better than 34-12 loss. DLS has been doing that to everyone lately, at least we had the balls to play them. Might be stupid though, San Ramon would be in the playoffs if they played an easy game instead of DLS.
Little is known on the weight the committee puts on anything other than head to head and League champs. Maybe they are a bunch of pencil pushers who've never been to Berger. Maybe they go to a lot of games in weeks 7-10 to guide them. Just saying.
As far as opting out, NASTY claims above there was little bravado to whom played the machine this year. That's too bad. It used to be the opportunity of playing them twice a year from 2008-11 was embraced. At least by the players.

In EBAL both teams need to agree to the DLS opt out game. In Cal and SRV's case they tried to opt out this year but DLS holds all the cards and wanted those games. That's why Foothill played them last year with Kearns and Langley because Sparta wanted the high profile local match up. Where did you get Cal tried to opt out? Cal tried to play earlier, Bellechi went to DLS and doesn't mind playing them, would rather have it game two rather than ten.

That was my understanding as well. Cal wanted to play them earlier. Maybe with Dougherty Valley coming into the EBAL next year, they will become Cal's natural crosstown rival in all sports and will then be their week 10 rivalry game every year. Dublin can then match up with Sparty as their "rival" as Cal has done since 2008.

Good knowledge. Was told the exact same thing by someone connected to the Grizzly football program. Think it is more beneficial to both Programs to play the game earlier in the season.

......and not to hijack this thread by why did Don Nelson/EBAL voters direct DLS to schedule 5 EBAL games for next season?? Just curious about the rationale.

Cal tried to get the game moved earlier or opt out all together so we are both right.
Observer the week 10 games will be Cal v SRV, Dublin v DV, MV v DLS, AV v FH, LV v GR... Yes that's right, no more SRV v MV week 10, not fond of breaking up that rivalry week tradition when Cal & DLS have played week 10 since Sparta joined.

I doubt very seriously that DLS alum Billeci wants DLS off his schedule. Not sure I can say the same for Sweeney and Bergman. In a perfect world DLS plays all EBAL teams willing to play them early in the season, to make those games slightly more competitive. I'm sure league play in Southern California and everywhere else in the nation would prevent DLS from playing out of area games later in the season.

Moving deLA up in the schedule is much different than opting out, for sure. Maybe that'll make a difference but the program now has performed less than the kids who started with Sanchez. 08 and '11 were the last times Cal held them to 3 TDs. Speaking of Tony, he already has one more wins than his predecessor with four to go. Not bad for a rookie season. They'll be bowling in 1-2 years.

Wow. I guess MV is the closest school to DLS and many DLS kids are from Danville. But that is a head scratcher.

Whenever SRV and MV play it will still be an intense rivalry though. Is this for all sports, and MV-Carondelet too?

While I don't personally see any first round upsets happening...

Woof. Understatement of the year! The only "upsets" were two 9 seeds (Windsor and Stellar Prep) beating 8 seeds. That could very well change this round, but I don't think it will be widespread. Here's my predictions for round 2:

D-I

De La Salle whips Cal
Pittsburgh gets revenge on MV
Antioch handles AV
Foothill beats Freedom

That sound you just heard was the heads of EBAL fans exploding to rip me a new one for predicting DLS as the only remaining "EBAL" team

D-II

Clayton Valley destroys Windsor
Granada beats Tennyson by 3 TDs
Miramonte squeaks by Casa Grande
Carillo upsets Concord

D-III

Campo beats Acalanes
Alhambra over BOD
El Cerrito shocks Analy
Rancho beats Petaluma

D-IV

Marin Catholic easily by Ft. Bragg
St. Mary's squeaks by Moreau
CN beats Justin-Siena
Piedmont upsets Fortuna

D-V

Berean Christian, Salesian, St. Bernard and Ferndale as the final 4...

Good picks. I only have one change.
Analy is going to whip El Cerrito. EC won't be able to stop Analy's offense. Analy hasn't played anybody but they are still good.
Newman vs Justin will be a good 2nd round game in D4.

I guarantee JS wont be intimidated, they are a legit program, not the typical 2nd round game for a 2 seed......CN has their work cut out for them and could very easily lose.

And for the rest of you.....

Can we all PLEASE get past this MC/CN D3/D4 crap please???
Cn and MC are in D4 now. lets skip the what ifs...and the what could have beens. The decision has been made. Can we move on please?

And Lower Lake did qualify but I heard thru the grapevine they were extremely dinged up and could barely field a team and the coach thought it best to not apply.[/QUOT
Whether you are tired of hearing about it or, if you take any team and let them move down a division for the playoffs they will excel!!! What needs to be done is change the small schools enrollment and move it to 1,000 or even 800 students and watch how much more competitive the small schools brackets become. And before you get all excited I am a fan of MC's. Since I don't know I am wondering what MC and CN's enrollments are????

Not sure I follow your statement there. Foothill is an EBAL team. So if you consider DLS an "EBAL" team then that makes 2, or half the remaining teams. I don't think many really feel that the 4 teams you are picking won't happen. Those are the 4 best teams in the field.

Got a feeling Piedmont comes out on top of Fortuna. Don't see St. Mary's beating Moreau, but more power to them if they do. El Cerrito doesn't get by Analy.
