I think the D1/Open bracket is accurate. It doesn’t say if the championship games will be at Dublin HS again. Wonder if it will just be hosted by the lowest seed. Pitt against De La Salle and then Pitt against Clayton will be fun to watch.

I think San Ramon rolls through the D2 bracket

Your post seems to say "Pitt against DLS and then against Clayton"? Doesn't make sense since Pitt will lost to DLS, so how could they play Clayton?

There's a new format for the NCS D1 bracket called the Open/D1 bracket. The first-round winners in the top half of the bracket will play for the Open Division championship on November 19/20. The loser of the Open Division championship will play the winner of the bottom half of the bracket for the Division I championship in November 26/27.

Please explain…. Last place and 0-5 in league Amador Valley gets in but first place in league Vintage stays home? I get the whole EBAL is a better league thing but dang that’s hardcore.

Well they haven’t beat anyone this year. Their best win is 6-4 D3 American Canyon. They lost to Casa Grande who got handled by D1 Antioch. Vintage is good but they play in a D3/4/5/6 league. They aren’t D1 good, not this year. Maybe schedule some EBAL or BVAL schools next year and beat them. Or beat El Cerrito and Newman.

I believe Vintage had to forfeit league title for some reason. Not sure what the exact reason was

Then what’s the point of having leagues? Yea, they lost to Casa Grande by 2 but CG got beat by 18 to AC.

See the link. The bracket lays it out. The reason behind it is to allow the 2nd or 3rd best team in entire NCS a chance to play in NorCals. NCS version of Folsom rule. They just call it “Open” to distinguish between the split in the bracket

It’s the Folsom Rule of the NCS. Nobody wants to play the Machine.

Do all of the NCS winners (Open-D7) advance to NorCal games? Or does the Open/D1 split take away a spot for another division?

Vintage should of took care of business and beat Casa. They don’t have a solid win on their resume. For better or worse they are in D1, pre season they need to play D1 opponents. Schedule CV, Antioch, Liberty, or Logan (who had has a weak league as well but they won it outright). Their league is extremely weak by D1 standards. Great coach, great kids, great program but D1 is rough.

So the #3 and #4 seeds have no chance of a open bid, but the #7 & 8 seeds do? Please tell me I wrong here right?

What is this - some kind of consolation game? I know CIF ruled against losing teams advancing in the playoffs.

Ncs is so ridiculous! Hercules the #8 seed wins one of the worst leagues in California and San Marin gets the #1 seed but since they lost to MC they have to go on the road ? great logic

Same in D3 Windsor #1 travels to #8 Northgate. The auto home game for league champs is horrible.

… but, according to some, the NCS is the best system! What gives! How can it be ridiculous?

No. 1 De La Salle hosts No. 8 James Logan and No. 2 Pittsburg hosts No. 7 Amador Valley. The winner of those two games will play for the NCS Open Division championship. The loser of that game will advance to the Division 1 championship game for a second chance to advance to the state playoffs. For example, De La Salle and Pittsburg advance to the Open Division championship in their half of the bracket. Clayton Valley Charter and Monte Vista play each other in the Division 1 semifinal game in their half of the bracket the same week. De La Salle wins the NCS Open Division championship game and Pittsburg would then play Clayton Valley or Monte Vista the following week for the NCS Division 1 Championship. The winner of that game would advance to the state playoffs.

Casa Grande was the auto bid in the VVAL

Got it so we still embrace this loser advances theme in every attempt to get the best possible teams to Rep Norcal. Norcal fans better hope SoCal doesn’t decide to operate this way or these ”state titles” will all end up in socal

Wow - I guess the NCS section found a loop hole in the CIF ruling of no losing team advancing to the RBG games by simply moving that losing team to a lower division for more playoff action. If that works, sections could theoretically daisy chain their losing teams down in every division. The SS section could leave slots open in their D2 through D7 divisions for their 6 losing teams out of D1 for a probable sweep of regional and state bowls.

I agree that this new format is ridiculous. But not any more ridiculous than giving De La Salle an automatic bid to the State Open game the past decade. The #2 team in the NCS has been at least the top 5 team in Northern California every year for the past ten years. Now they are being granted access to a corrupt Northern California state playoff system created to enable those Folsom teams to go to State. You know, the system created because it has taken 30 years for someone in Northern California to beat De La Salle? 30 YEARS!!!! Lol! That’s about 20 years too late to address the competitive inequities.

Don’t worry, if De La Salle loses again next year this format will be abandoned.

Format sucks in general it is just wrong to have a winner move on. Now this is better than the previous format in which I believe the Open was 4 teams and the runner up moved on, and the D1 champ did not move on. At least you still need to "win" to move on.

That being said I think it is very delusional to believe a program in the NCS will beat DLS anytime soon. I am quite tired of posters claiming other schools just need to "step up their game" I am sorry the other schools work plenty hard but for a variety of reasons no one in the NCS will consistently be able to compete with DLS, even if someone can sneak a victory in (no one has in 30 years). Sure a WCAL team can put together a comparable program (SF) but they are in CCS and there is no equivalent to DLS in the NCS. No one has the population base, reach, admin support, community support, lure for families, coaches, no public in the NCS will overcome, not even Pitts ever growing school (now 3500+) can overcome the Spartans. If anyone has a better solution other than "if you can't beat DLS you better work harder" I am all ears, but I am tired of Pittsburg or San Ramon or whoever losing by 40+ in the NCS Championship year after year, 2nd place is the ceiling for them, which is no shame for a public.

How good is the James Logan team that DLS is playing in round 1?

These poor schools in NCS it’s just so unfair. I mean they have to play DLS and it’s just so unfair boo hoo. You people sound frankly pathetic. Year after year the top teams in the state get no bowl bids, no BS state titles nothing. And you know what? They are OK with that because if they can’t win that Southern section title they understand they weren’t good enough. It might help to explain that to NCS programs instead of making excuses of why they can’t win.

How can an NCS team beat DLS? If it was that easy it would have been done long ago. Maybe you should take over Clayton Valley or Liberty or whoever. What would you do differently to overcome the Spartans? I’m really curious. I know Clayton Valley has tried everything LOL. We don’t have a comparable private school with that population base and support.

CV has the same if not better situation than DLS, open enrollment about 15k cheaper. What they don’t have is obvious If you can’t figure that out you never will. Same could be said for other programs in the area. (Even though they don’t have open enrollment which makes hill a little higher) But let’s be real no shortage of kids transferring around Ant, Oakley corridor either.

SoCal has the two IMGs of California. NorCal doesn't have anything close to that. Having said that yes, this loser advance BS needs to stop. NCS teams have been going through this for decades. They've seen other teams avoid DLS and advance to a state game( no need to name names) while they've stayed home. But adopting this BS doesn't help at all

You and I know that if they took away DLS rolling start, things would change.
The initial force that is generated by that power, makes up for lack size folks have been bragging about for years.
There is an article in sports illustrated about evolving away from down lineman.
Reading that made ,me think about just what I mentioned in my first note.

Here's wishing you great football

Simply amazing so that it huh? The rolling start is the secret sauce to all that success? Here’s a thought why not do it yourselves if that is the answer? Me thinks it’s a little more than that. Lol.

Not a secret sauce. By the by, I am a professional Chef, so I do know about sauce.
I am making the point that it has a tremendous influence in what they do with their offense. To denied that is just silly.

Ok great. So I’ll say it again copy it, why haven’t Norcal teams copied it for same advantage?

Apparently every coach has been a complete oblivious idiot the past 30 years! LOL
That’s funny North Bay! Touché
Old timers like Marc do not need to answer a newbies question when they themselves have posed such.

The thread is about 2021 NCS. The dissection about a successful program has happened numerous times here. In great detail.

Late to the party? No cake for you🤣

Maybe a “old timer” like Marc shouldn’t make such painfully ignorant and obviously correctable excuses for 30 years of failure, right? LMAO!
