NCS Predictions

I went to the Stuart Hall/Middletown game in Middletown. Nice little drive. A Surprising outburst by my Knights tonight. Winning 63-33.
Ah yes! The Middletown Barn! A little different vibe than some bay area venues for sure! Great shooting night by the Knights. Stuart Hall's coach told Middletown coach after the game that was their best shooting night of the year. 14 triples!

Best shooting night and it wasn't even close. They play like that every game and they will be a tough out.

Kiddman32....I have no idea what has happened to them this year. SJND was a powerhouse....did Lippi retire?

Also, there is something about those smalltown schools I love. Everyone shows up, its like the biggest event in the town. Even when I arrived there was one of those signs that said:

Middletown: Home of the Mustangs

Always liked the Middletown gym.

Great win for SJND. They have been hit bigtime with players transferring out. Thompson ( SCA), Muhammad ( O. Tech) and Tarver ( Dublin) we're huge losses.

Always liked the Middletown gym.
Cool layout with steep bleachers on both sides if i remember correctly, not super tall so they get packed. Coming from the city it feels like dang near Wyoming up there, with boots tearing up the court and cowboys hats in the stands. Getting larger and more diverse though, which is good, as people move to hidden valley for cheaper housing. I am sure the lack of masks shocked Stuart Hall, lol.

To the first point about SJND…. From what I’ve heard, over the last couple years, the athletic dept. support has practically died, and just at the wrong time, with the Pilots escaping the BCL West and going to a more challenging league…

Kids saw the handwriting on the wall and transferred the heck out…. Lippi is still there and a great coach, but ya gotta have players.

And it’s even worse on the girls side.

I think the problems had already begun well before this year, probably before they even moved to the BCL league.

Just not a good situation at all.

And to the 2nd point about the atmosphere at Middletown…

Haven’t been there, but what you describe is a lot like the atmosphere at the Gridley Invitational, but with a lot more dynamic hoops being played up there at Farmers Hall.

Late to the game because of some business travel. Here are my predictions -

Open: Northgate in an upset over Campo and then wins title over De La Salle
Division I: Moreau Catholic beats CVC
Division II: Redwood keeps rolling and overall size too much for San Ramon Valley
Division III: All MCAL title game: Archie Williams is bigger, more experience and playing well. Will beat Branson in a close title game
Division IV: University over Marin Catholic.
Division V: Head Royce over Cloverdale

Enjoy the postseason. Survive and advance!

Impressive wins against Salesian. That is no easy task. Sonoma will be feisty. They have a good guard who signed d2 who can play. You guys should win by 15-20 though.
Don't Count Sonoma out just yet..and I think it could be closer than 15-20. All do respect to SPSV - they did put up an impressive season record.

SPSV has 3 good scorers in Medieros, Blackmore and Johnson.
The Sonoma guard is a legit player, and I have seen a lot of him b/c I follow a few teams in the VVAL (D2's)...IMO could have made a D1 squad had he started his recruiting earlier- COVID didn't help either for a lot of guys. Look at his numbers.. kid has been putting up consistently high level numbers his whole 4yr varsity career. Also Sonoma's big man # 30 can shoot the ball and get hot and they have two feisty sophomores.
However, they need to play a clean/solid game and not cough the ball up like they can when the senior guard isn't handling the ball or when SPSV applies pressure.

For other D3 action - AWHS is a solid team. The MCAL championship game was not very impressive from either team. That said, I do like AW's big #5 Will H. He is a talented big that can handle the ball and has good footwork and plays D. I have not been able to see Hayward so not sure what kind of problems they will pose for AWHS. I think where AW will struggle is from the outside, the games I have been able to watch didn't show a lot in terms of being able to knock down 3's on a regular basis.

Piedmont will walk through their quarterfinal as will Branson.

D2 tnite
SRV Hammers Petaluma by 20+
I’m going with home court on this one. Monty holds off alameda by 2 in OT! I’ve been torn a little because nbl was so weak.
Redwood handles Benicia by 12
The Game That has me puzzled is Salesian. If they aren’t playing at full strength I could see American Canyon with mild upset. If they have all players going I will take pride.
anybody know?

Salesian has been the definition of inconsistent and underachieving this year. An AC win would not surprise me one bit.

However, Sonoma was down 46-50 with 3:04 left in the 4th at the Novato December Tournament. SPSV build the lead to 8 with 2 min left before Sonoma brought it back to 6 and then had to start fouling to stop clock. The 7 of the last 9 points in the contest for SPSV were on fouls to stop clock in the last seconds. You can find the video online. SPSV has 3 good scorers in Medieros, Blackmore and Johnson.

I have seen him up against guys in the bay that have received D1 offers and he's right there. AnoldAd..... SPSV won be 25 with 6 players sitting out including 2 starters. I couldn't tell who the player was that was signed. Blackmore threw down 3 monster dunks on em all. Did I mention that SPSV had 6 players out? Lol.

Stuart Hall defeated SJND in a close game until the end when the Knights were able to pull away. Good seeing Mr. Ethan Kasell in the building.

Going to be an interesting semis against a Uni team that has torched the Hall in all 3 games they have played this year.

Will the 4th time be the charm? Stay Tuned!

Yes will agree it was a bad showing by sonoma and it was 23 as per max preps and the simulcast last night ...and a great showing by Blackmore (19pts) and medieros. (24pts from MaxPreps) The signed kid was #20 and he scored 17 I think, from what I counted off max preps after being face guarded and hacked to $#-t all night. That said, the game plan by the Sonoma coach was bad they didn't adjust at all and the game plan by svsp was spot on. Game plan wasn't in line with opponent.
Maybe before busting on the signed kid, if that's what your intent was in your post, you should look at his body of work before looking at one game. Max preps has him at over 1700 pts in his HS career and his stats are consistently solid through all 4 yrs. Shooting, rebounding, defense, etc

SPSV is exciting to watch and they are a well coached team that does a great job with their athletism and lack of size. Something the Sonoma coach didn't take advantage of from what I saw by watching the game online.

I think svsp will handle AW against. They have height but guestionable guard play.

I think Bransons conservative game plans and tough d will down Piedmont. Another good but close game

In D2 figured Petaluma would go out against srv but was hoping AC would have had a better showing against Salesians

Happy watching

The guard from Sonoma is a nice d2 Player. He will do well at Colorado School of mines. People generally have no idea how good you have to be to play at next level.

How about redwood getting hammered by Benicia? I didn’t see that coming but I never caught a Benicia game this year either.

i think Montgomery /SRV game will be a great one. Would not be surprised to see game in 40’s which will favor visiting vikes. Tough to win at SRV though.

Looking at 21-7 Benicia’s schedule, they should not be taken lightly. They have wins over Liberty and Sacramento (and now Redwood). They lost to SPSV by only 1, lost to Oakland in OT, and Monte Vista in double OT. They could easily be 23-5 or better, and they’ve been battle tested against some quality teams.

Most definitely. I just never caught them on TV or in person and really not a program you hear a ton about. But those are all solid teams and clearly they scheduled strong.

AnOldAD - You seem to know an awful lot about the "signed kid" from Sonoma Valley in going through your posts. I, too, am incredibly familiar with the VVAL and I have watched the "signed kid" play since he was in middle school. He is a very good player. For four years the coaching staff at Sonoma ran EVERYTHING through him and he had a great high school career. For you to come on here and blast the Sonoma coaches because the "signed kid" had a so so final 6 games is incredibly one sided. It does not look good to call out all the other players and coaches on a team that overachieved this year. It makes one believe that you have a pretty close relationship with someone in the program, maybe a father?????

Wrong actually I am on the other side of county west and watch a lot of teams and players in marin and Sonoma most all this stuff is on Maxpreps and in the various papers. Read once in awhile and you too can educate yourself. And no one called out any players at all. Wrong again. Credit was given kids no knocking any kids

Happy continued playoff watching take your angst elsewhere.

The sophomore and junior guards aren't players on the team?

Fair point, bad job on me regarding call out- quote amended...but I stand by my analysis of what I saw as a game plan. Sorry you disagree and are upset by my take.

Happy Playoff watching

Did you watch the whole game versus SP/SV? Sonoma players had dominated the first part of the game and couldn’t convert. Also, they missed free throws in the first half that would have helped a little. #20 had 4 fouls early in the second half which is a nightmare for any coach. You are almost playing 4 v 5 because they could not take 20 out of the game. 20 likely would have picked up an offensive foul if he had the ball the whole time as well. At one point early in the 4th quarter Sonoma had 5 fouls and SP/SV had zero. If SP/SV was sitting in a 2-3 zone that would be a little more understandable. I still am having a difficult time believing you’re not a parent but if you say so. I believe you .
