Kickers don’t get much love but what a luxury. Congrats to CN kicker Ethan Kollenborn for max preps 2nd team all American kicker. I will never forget the winner against Marin Catholic. Pretty sure he will be kicking at next level.

Actually kicking is a good way to get a scholarship - Palma has had kickers go to San Jose (one there now Matt Mecurrio and one a couple years MichaelCarrizosa that was Ray Guy award finalist for punting and that was invited to try out for place kicking with NFL team and still might make the pros), one at Grambling State a couple years ago Miguel mendez, and John Bonano at U of Arizona in 2011. I think they have had 4 kickers over last 8 years. Former Palma multi-sport athlete John Bonano was named to the University of Arizona football teams' all-decade team as a kicker. The one that just graduated was good enough to play college but may be playing soccer. They should have another good one this coming season. Good luck to the young man.

Good point. It’s such a speciality I really don’t know the ins and outs on the recruiting side. Sounds like Palma has a good formula!

I think there is a kicking circuit (is that what you'd call it?) where the college hopefuls go to camps and such. I know the CN kicker would like to kick at the next level so hopefully this opens up some avenues to that goal.

I asked Cronin and he said this is his 1st All American and as far as any of us at CN can tell it's a 1st in school football history. I'm currently trying to find out if any of the old timers from some of those great teams in the 70s potentially could have won something similar.

Guru- What about Jerry Robinson? 3x All American at UCLA and was just named #89 on College Football top 150 of all time. If he wasn't an ALL American at Newman it was a mistake.....

It’s not like those high school All American teams have ever been very accurate or inclusive to somewhat out of the way places like Santa Rosa. It’s mostly the large highly publicized Nationally known schools like DLS that tend to garner attention. It’s amazing that Kollenborn was even named to this year’s team.
