i watched this game... and the particulars need to be explained, cuz it was unbelievable, and feels wrong.St Mary’s wins 56-51 in OT
Yeah I was watching too and it seemed like the official tried to anticipate what they thought might happen without knowing the full context. Really tough spot for St. Mary's. But didn't Priory call timeout after the SM turnover?i watched this game... and the particulars need to be explained, cuz it was unbelievable, and feels wrong.
St Mary's takes a 4 point lead with 12ish seconds left and Priory takes their last timeout. So, all SM has to do is play solid defense for 7 seconds...even if they score, they don't have to inbound the ball. And they do just that... Priory scored with less than 5 seconds left to make it a 2 point game. The official in front of the Priory bench calls timeout for Priory. Technical foul, right? 1.5 seconds left. Game over.... But wait... Priory coach denies calling for a timeout. So, the officials make St. Mary's inbound the ball under their basket with 1.5 seconds.
How can this be????? I get the rules... seems like a giant loophole. again, the game is over as the clock would've run out. I feel like the officials should've had the ability to call the game right there.
Now, it still should not have gone to OT... SM had a horrendous turnover with no time elapsed (brain fart on the inbounder... she somehow inbounded the ball to herself... figure that one out). then they played atrocious defense on the inbound play to give up an uncontested layup.
Now, I think the officials started giving the 50/50 calls to st mary's in OT, cuz they knew they screwed up. There were 2 foul calls that should've fouled out smith that they gave to other players., and they let a hard contest by smith go with under a minute left that probably should've been called that would've tied the game (or got them within a possession, can't remember). And I think the happiest guy in the gym after the game was the official who screwed up.
no... it was a sm timeout.Yeah I was watching too and it seemed like the official tried to anticipate what they thought might happen without knowing the full context. Really tough spot for St. Mary's. But didn't Priory call timeout after the SM turnover?

To be fair they shouldn't have had to take the ball out at all. But I get your take.Another late game failure by coaches and players.
Team inbounding just roll the ball. The opponent has no timeouts and won't be able to get a shot off. Just throw it off a player in bounds.
Bball IQ lacking
Still gotta use your brain even if the ref didn'tTo be fair they shouldn't have had to take the ball out at all. But I get your take.
Basketball is a contact sport. Hard body contact is supposed to happen. From what I saw the officiating was not that great through out the game. They let a lot of hard body contact go while calling little touch fouls. Very inconsistent.
No such thing. No plays are a likeContact is fine but be consistent
