Folsom is #5 in the state, McClatchy #12.

No word on whether “baby mama” is here to help McClatchy out. (inside joke if you’re new…).

Watching McClatchy in warmups…. If they can shoot like that, or even sorta close to it, in the game, they’ll be a tough out.

Just watched 8 straight wing 3’s hit only nylon.

Interesting…. ZERO people in the Folsom student section…. Not just a few…. Except for a couple people wearing badges, NOBODY.

Wow…. Folsom’s student section has blossomed to about 40…. Including the boys team.

34-23 McClatchy at the half…. Cain has 15 and 6, plus a steal and full-length driving score just before the half.

Breyana Kimmons adds 11 for the Lions…

Folsom is led by Aryn Bright’s 10.

Turnover, Folsom gets it back, chance to tie.

no, but they get within one.

Folsom rebounds a missed FT and scores at the buzzer…. 47-44, eight minutes to go.

Cain has 22 and 12…. Kimmons 15…

Bright has 14.

Bingaman scores…. Reyes retirns the favor…. Lions by 7.

Lions try to burn clock, turn it over. 1:17 left, 60-53 Lions.

Liins cheerleader got dropped…. Oops…. Delay while they pick her up.

No idea if she got hurt any.

Folsom 3 bounces over, Lions ball…. Lewis drives past the gambling D and scores…. 62-53. Folsom turns it over…. the game is over. Late score before the shot clock, 64-53 final.
Thank you kiddman32 for all the updates. That's fabulous that you are doing this. Another upset for the McClatchy Girls BB Team.

Great updates as always kiddman!

I think you can make the case McClatchy has the best starting five in NorCal. Depth could be their issue on any given night, but they are strong at the top. Kimmons played the best game I've seen her play tonight

Interestingly, Kimmons transferred to McClatchy from Folsom because she couldn't get enough playing time at Folsom off the bench. Must be sweet for her to avenge her former team.

Bulldogs fall to McClatchy, 64-53

Folsom High’s varsity girls’ basketball team was trying to win their second section championship in three years on Friday at Golden 1 Center, but lost to McClatchy, 64-53.

The Bulldogs trailed for all but 1:20 of the game, by as many as 15 points early in the third quarter, as they couldn’t stop Nina Cain, McClatchy’s star post player, who scored 22 points and had 12 rebounds in the game.

Folsom came all the way back and cut the lead to two points as late as 51-49 with 5:15 to play in the fourth quarter, but couldn’t get any closer to the lead.

“We knew what the challenges were in front of us,” Folsom High coach Lynn Wolking said. “Losing Dixie a week ago, our best interior defender, hurt us. We fought and came back and got within two points. I’m proud of the girls.”

Folsom did everything they could to slow Cain, but nothing seemed to work. The team got in foul trouble, as Avery Masters and Jada Tupou both had three fouls in the first half, while Masters picked up her fourth foul in the second half, as she played in less than half of the game.

“All the foul trouble early in the game hurt us,” Wolking said. “It was frustrating because Nina was too strong inside and we couldn’t stop them from scoring. Bre (Kimmons) played the best basketball I’ve ever seen her play.”

Kimmons, who played for the Bulldogs last season, was brilliant for McClatchy, as she scored 21 points and provided the secondary scoring that McClatchy needed along with the play of Cain.

“Credit to McClatchy and their coach Jeff, they were the better team,” Wolking said.

Besides missing McLanahan, which was obvious, the Bulldogs didn’t shoot many three-pointers, as they made three-of-only seven attempts.

Thanks for the great updates.

NorCal Open landscape has changed.

For history buffs, the last time McClatchy Girls BB won the Sac-Joaquin Section title was in the 2006-07 season (18 years ago). Most of the recent past they would have had excellent seasons and ranked in the top 40 in the state, but fall in the semi-finals to either St. Mary's, Oak Ridge, or Folsom. So this is a very rare achievement and season for them, regardless how they will do in the NorCal Open division.

That banner is on the wall, even if Mitty sends them home by 30.

Congrats to McClatchy.
