Open Division: Bishop Montgomery vs. Woodcreek

Great effort by WC and they def belonged against the best. Just wish they didn't start so bad. Brown has put up one of the best performances I've seen in state finals history.

Impressive showing by Brown. Nice to see a big hit FTs in a big game.

Woodcreek waited too long to switch things up. Good halftime adjustments but it needed to be done in the 1st quarter.

Bishop Montgomery beat Woodcreek 74-67. Knights were locked in at the foul line late to hold off the TImberwolves' run

Glad that WC came back and made it a game. I didn't want to see a team go out like that infront of there home squad. I agree with the poster above me though, they got really valuable experience. 3 of the top 5 scorers for WC are juniors, they'll be back next year even better. Goodluck to them.

Montgomery is just a powerhouse, might be the best team in the nation.

All time great performances in a losing effort by Jordan Brown. Wow... 35 and 18 I think. First 5 minutes was just brutal. Would love to have that 1st period back. But give credit to where its due. BM is a great team. They made the plays when they needed too. I think you can make an argument both schools are favorites next season. WC needed somebody like Cagle to step up in addition to Roberts, Brown, and Hughes. It never happened.

Brown's numbers tonight now mean a tie for fourth best individual points scored in state championships, regardless of division, as well as new all-time highs (for any division) for FTs made and attempted.

Comon Larry you gave up on them way to early. Just say my bad;)
I will say this. With 1:51 seconds left and only down 5 points, they started to foul to early. Should have tried at least 1 true stop. If they do make that one stop and come down and score, it's butt puckering time for all of us.
Here's wishing you great hoops

I think most of us gave up on WC including myself. They showed tremendous heart and passion to claw there way back. They definitely belonged amongst the elite.

Not sure what others thought but I never thought Roosevelt, Esperanza, and Bishop Montgomery were in doubt of their outcomes. It seemed like they were all the better teams and when the needed to assert pressure or make a big play on offense they were able to do that. Whereas I thought the girls Open final (Mitty vs Clovis) was a total tossup. Those teams play 10x and either one of them can win 5x.

Great season to WC. It was fun watching Brown flourish on the main stage.

And lets be honest... Oregon State might have gotten the steal of the century with Thompson.

WC great year and great performance by Brown. I do think he gets away with alot of traveling and no call, position fouls, as well as roving in the key. I will say he takes whatever the refs give him and doesn't complain.
Way to early for me to make a prediction on favorites for next year, although I think WC and Sheldon should both be in the mix as both teams have strong contributing juniors coming back.

I think WC is def right back in the mix assuming the teams stays put.

Brown 6"11 All American
Cagle 6"6 All league and potential all sac player. (not sure what happened to him last night)
Kyle Kern 6"6- Played really good last night. Kid could surprise a lot if he improves.
Boggs- Smith 6"2 guard.
LJ Branner 6"3 fresh.

You need a backcourt. WC lost Hughes and Roberts. That will not be easy to replace. Both guys are college kids. Hughes at menlo and roberts most likely low D1.

Like my old cousin LeSean Peckerwood used to say, "you never know when a game is going to be won or lost, every possession matters!"

This one happened to be decided early in the first! Great game and great season for Woodcreek.

Things looked bleak for WC when they got down 17-4 after 1 and the 29-11 in the 2nd quarter, and just about everyone thought they'd get blown out.

But they battled back and Brown got tough after appearing soft early and they actually had a decent chance down just 5 with the ball with a few minutes left and the partisan crowd sounding like Roaracle. But BM answered when they needed to and came away with a well earned Open Championship. WC has nothing to be ashamed of and the NorCal Open champs will be back next year hungry for redemption.

When you have a dad who can coach, colleges should swoop them up. Has paid off for Oregon State and now Missouri
