Asiasi and Tagaloa has influenced a tide of sorts as there will be more of there ilk in the preceding classes. Names like Faaita, leuigatama and Itautoa lower classmen at DLS. Rumors of Tagaloas younger brother coming to Sparta as well as Asiasi cousin already enrolled as freshman. The lines for Sparta after 2016 will have definite Polynesian flavor.

I think that's cool, there's some great Polynesian talent out there. Way back when I played you hardly ever heard of a Poly player in the San Jose area where I grew up.

Milpitas, Woodside, Riordan, Serra and Jefferson are football programs that have Polynesian kids on their rosters.

The church in WC that I grew up in has had a large Polynesian community for many years now. They even did a Polynesian mass. They did a phenomenal Luau fundraiser too.

Why would Tagaloa's brother going to DLS be a big shock? There is a big Poly population in the San Mateo area and Serra has done a great job tapping into that pipeline. Plenty of good Poly skill position guys as well. Asiasi is a big young guy but incredibly skilled. Just watching his actions in the State final showed his incredible athleticism. I honestly think after Sweeney went down that Asiasi would have made DLS a better team in the long run at QB but he was so valuable at TE-DE that the coaches did a good job in allowing him to develop at positions that suit him best at the next level (and level after that).

The knock has always been wether these big kids can withstand the Elite physical conditioning and summer workouts that a storied program like DLS has offered. If anything Alumbaugh's legacy will be his motivating integration of this new POLYMOVEMENT to the Spartan Lore. Much like you have all said Patrick Walsh of Serra there in the peninsula happened about this when starting his tenure at Serra of San Mateo and steadily have built it into a perennial football power. Of course not every parent of Polynesian descent will put there kids on Bart and send them concord but there will be a few vowel latent names on the lines coming off fast and crisp with low pad level. Coach lad of course overseeing it all.

Sic- Why would anybody think they couldn't take the conditioning. Is this some kind of negative stereotype I don't know about? You look at guys like Palamalu and the late Junior Seau and these guys were/are leaders and workout warriors.

Walsh and Alumbaugh truly a new breed of young coaches who are working to stay cutting edge. Known them since they were kids. Don't be surprised if Jesuit becomes the next NorCal power with Coach Blanton. Part of the Ladoucer coaching tree which I believe will be his most important legacy (if that's possible).

Pretty silly comment there, Sic. You insult the work ethic of Polynesian players, at the same time pumping the DLS program out of proportion.

Poly players are amazing in general. These kids are strong as oxes and come from good families. Grant in Sacramento has a strong presence as well. Watched many go on to play in college. Personally I like to see the diversity. The conditioning comment was a little in left field. I will give the benefit of doubt. Plus who really loves conditioning!!!

This guy does, regardless........... http://youtu.be/yZPqtrjlAqo

That being said, noted at the DLS-James Logan game played at the Santa Clara 49'rs Levi Stadium that the Colts had several Poly kids on their team.............

I don't blame the conditioning of players at Grant on the players. It's not that some kids don't have a good work ethic- it's more of a faction that they haven't been taught about work ethic and challenged what they are capable of.

Don't mean to offend bubba. Not pumping the machine at all. We have all seen for years the results of Ladouceur approach of bringing high level physical fitness training to his program. Many can argue he pioneered the specialized strength conditioning approach to the high school levels in a successful way. Successful in it he got the administration to buy in, implemented a philosophy that in its own way weeded out the weaker and less committed kids and parents and then turned it up to the success it is today. Not hyping nothing bubba but have you seen the Bishop Gorman weight rooms and football facilities in comparison to DLS. You can see the philosophical approaches in those pictures. As far as the Polynesian work ethic I promise you I am a good source as well as an opinion. You're getting more into third generation Polynesian thinking now. ones that were born here and college educated, assimilated in western society earlier. They will want more for there kids that show size and strength earlier than the other kids. The driving force of course is better education, private vs public and better opportunities to higher education something there first generation was unable to obtain.

Not that this is really related to the subject, but Oceanside also benefits from a strong Polynesian community. They're often one of the top teams, if not the top team, in San Diego.

Besides a very strong conditioning program, not that many of DLS players are forced to play both ways, like many of the public schools with limited depth of talent.

DLS is renowned for playing guys both ways, so not sure where this comment comes from

DLS returns 14 starters next year -- kind of, 8 of those spots are represented by 4 kids (Boss, Asiasi, Wiley, and Custer)

DLS depth IMHO is mostly due to the 45th guy on the roster having the same commitment as the 1st guy -- not because the 45th guy is more talented than the 45th guy at Cal

I'm not saying DLS doesn't have any two way starters, just fewer than most programs. To say DLS doesn't have superior depth of talent to Cal High or any other bay area team is a homer comment.

Very true.

the Spartans superior strength and conditioning showed vs CC in the fourth quarter of this years Open game.

I think their half time adjustments were even bigger. They disguised their coverage to force those turnovers and did a better job on their keys at the LOS.

your "counter" to Pops statement is Cal's 45th player is a JV call up?
That's all you Cal boyz have?

That is as weak as Cal's non league schedule.

* Walsh has done a great job tapping into that pipeline. By San Mateo area I know you mean San Mateo County because most of the Poly families that use to live in the Shoreview neighborhood and other areas of the City of San Mateo, now live North and South of the actual city of San Mateo ... too expensive. Heck at one time Aragon HS had most of the Polynesians from San Mateo, both Tonga brothers etc. Aragon is where Sam Tuivailala, now with the St Louis Cardinals, attended school.

Well PJ, because they have a tough, old school DLS alum coaching at Cal High, the regular varsity squad did not reach 45 until JV players were brought up for playoffs. Sorry if Observer gave you a fact based, numbers driven post to prove his point.

When you've got ten paid coaches on varsity and 24 in the program you'll attract athletes. Doesn't hurt to have super recruiter Tosh Lupoi as your most visible college connection either.

It must be coaching because DLS clearly does not have a talent advantage....

Yea, because we know talent always wins ...... Shameful that Cal parents have their team defeated months before the game is played. Sure hope you guys gave the maturity not to speak to your players with that loser attitude.

PJ, where did you hear anything of the sort regarding Cal parents? Tell me, what's it like to be a front runner.........?

Comparing DLS to local public school programs is like comparing division 1 college programs to division 3 college programs. The kids are all about the same age but one team is far more talented and skilled than the other. If making ridiculous comparisons makes your nads swell up and makes you feel superior......so be it.....

Sammy Tuivailala

NCSF said: @Backward k- How about Tuivailala? He has really thrived!

Many are happy for Sam. Played three sports at Aragon/San Mateo - and he'll tell us that he went to (only) one so called showcase in Monterey one cold and foggy morning where he hit three big flies with wood and nicked 92+.

Not positive but the Cards tried him at SS/3b and CF for a moment or three and then it was onward to the pitching mound where they feel he has a nice future.

Cal High '12 had an experienced coach (Logan and Fremont-Oak,) an Islander DE/TE who played at El Camino. He promoted a talented Grizz for the next level (Utah/LDS influence), while mentoring a young Islander on campus with a bright future and summarily dismissed by the DLS grad. It appears such advocacies, unwarranted under the HC's needed perception of "doing more with less," was insubordination. The forced and voluntary exodus of talented, respected coaches has hurt the program. A competitive balance is measured with the roster, coaches and community/administrative support as NCSF has described. Even the principal who hired Sanchez and the Sparty alum has retired. B3K- Proxy attacks against our kids can be chalked up to ignorance and/or not ever having a seat at the table. Ever since the Lad Clan and Eidson personally complimented them, everything else pontificated here by anyone is annoying white noise.
