In just 24 hours, more than 1,000 college players have entered the transfer lotto.
Xavier landed their coach today. The flip side.. coaches can move freely for more money. Mcneese, new Mexico, drake, Colorado st, Xavier all looking for coaches and nobody is complaining
It’s just pay to play. Nothing toJust like there are no lower seeds in the NCAA tourney sweet 16
When NIL becomes the top priority over PT and experience, this is what happens. Guys will take 100k to be the 7th or 8th man as opposed to 50k and a starting position.
Gotta take the good with the bad when it comes to NIL….unfortunately all the smaller programs are at risk of moving to D2 or D3
Why would that be bad? Being broke causes more problemsIt’s just pay to play. Nothing to
Do with name ,image ,likeness. Yep let’s give that 19 yo 100k. That will make him /her more responsible and mature lol
The powers that be never get any of this right.
Should the players be compensated? Sure, I guess. I mean, they are getting a free scholarship which isn't peanuts.
But I do understand that millions and billions were going into the pockets of others despite the student-athletes generating that revenue. So, yeah, I do think they should get a piece of it. But not the way they're doing it.
IMO, the right way to do it is for any NIL money a player generates to go into an escrow account to be paid out upon graduation or if/when they leave early for the professional ranks. And if they do the latter, they should be required to pay back the scholarship.
Incentivize graduating from college. For those that are only in it for the 1-3 years it takes to get them into the pros and couldn't care less about the degree -- they can afford to pay back the scholly (by opting to leave early).
A benefit of their NIL going into an escrow account is not allowing these kids to blow all their NIL money or to flaunt their wealth while in school (while they are less mature). Allow them a capped stipend (out of their NIL $$) each month to help make ends meet. But other than that, all other NIL earnings should be deferred until graduation or upon entering the pros.
I'd also add penalties for taking NIL from one school then leaving for another as a way to de-incentivize the practice.
The old way didn't work (too many rules and regulations), but neither does the new way (very few rules and regulations).
