The SJ Mercury says Riordan has a junior 6-9 transfer, Lolo Taaga, from Serra in San Mateo. Who is this kid? He wasn't on the Serra varsity last year and I don't recall him listed on any of the underclassmen teams.

@parkdale interesting as the young man is also listed under Sheldon Class of 2024 on PrepHoops and is ranked 9th in his position. https://www.prephoops.com/player/lolo-taaga/

He played JV at Serra and as a 6'8" sophomore he averaged 2 points and 2 rebounds for a. JV team that won like 3 games.

Why did he leave? Serra has a solid program. Look forward to seeing the young man’s development.

Could it be……. Coaching? Nah.
Larry please be quiet you don’t know what you’re talking about. You don’t know me or my program. It sucks that here I am in Nov of 2022 having to respond to this type of crap from anonymous grown man haters on a message board. But I’m not going to just let you disparage me or my coaching staff. People are constantly talking about us out of jealousy, spite etc.

Put your real name to your s**t talking. Look up my contact info or message me here. Or please come say it to my face, you know where I’m at on game days and where I am everyday besides Sundays during basketball season.

Was LL being complimentary of the teenager transfer about his sophomore stats too? This thread started off as a Thanksgiving Day post with disparaging remarks about the player who transferred and then to his new coach. Sad way for adults to spend a holiday. Only someone attached to the Serra basketball program would know a sophomore’s jv per game stats.

Coach Curtin’s record is pretty impressive since he came onboard in 2017. (CCS D3 Title in his first year, a couple of shared WCAL titles and runner up in the Open and a CCS Open title last year.). Last season more impressive after losing 2 D1 players in 7-0 Mor Seck and 6-8 Zion Zensley to Prolific Prep.
The Serra-Riordan series are always played tough and I believe it’s been a split over the past 5 seasons.

It was actually Padre Whisperer, not LL who posted about the transfer’s stats.

Larry is from Sac. He has nothing to do with Serra.

Before you talk shit about someone’s character on here make sure it’s the right person……pro tip

To be fair, Serra’s 2 best players last year were transfers (Keyhani from Menlo and Klapper from Burlingame). Mitty has had their share of transfers that go back to the Gordon Brother years, most recently Nigel Burris, Jaden Paran Gavin Ripp and a jr. transfer this year. Even the top team in NorCal Modesto Christian has numerous transfers on their roster. Also, as many transfers that have come in to Riordan, many have also transferred out. Point is I don’t think these coaches nor Coach Curtin just roll out the ball.

Well, it might be that LL is being complimentary of Coach Rapp rather than taking pot shots…
Yes indeed Kidsman32z

Lighten up francis. Nothing to do with you. Bingo!! I’m a big coach Rapp supporter. Always have been.

Coaching and talent is needed for a team to win - let's not kid ourselves. Riordan started off slow last season as they had to replace 4 starters, 2 who went to PP. Their non-league was challenging playing Sac, Salesian, Campo and SHP. Split with Serra, swept St. Francis, lost first 2 against Mitty (away game at Mitty went to OT) before winning going away for the CCS Open Title. To add insult to injury Riordan had to go on the ROAD and take on NCS runner up De La Salle in the Norcal OPEN and beat them. Last season VC had a 4 star 6-9 kid along with numerous transfers - unfortunately the HC was out mid season and VC suffered. Are you saying Coach Kennedy is a terrible coach after losing the CCS Open? Or Coach Schneider at Bellarmine having a down year with injured players and a young team? How about SF Coach Motil who had 3 very good seniors (one a transfer from SHP) and they didn't even finish with a winning record in league. Curtin came into the Riordan job going against coaches with at least 10 years with their teams and tons of accomplishments/success. "Coaching" has been brought up many times re Riordan - either blatant or veiled. Stop.

Coaching and talent go hand in hand. A majority of successful coaches who make good runs end up with good talent. It also takes skill to coach such talent. When you have a team full of talent, you have to offset the parent pressure, kids thinking they should play more, etc….. It’s a handful to coach at the highest level, cause a lot more is involved than just what’s takes place on the court, and hats off to any coach who maintains and keeps a successful program going. Bottom line is we only have one Frank Alloco. By far the greatest coach I have seen in the Bay Area. He had his teams in games at times they had no business being in. And he scheduled anybody. Outside of him, you have Lou at BOD, you have Rapp at Serra, you had Schneider at Bellarmine, and on my side of the bay where my son will attend, you have Mellis at Salesian. Everyone is behind Alloco no doubt, but bottom line is if you pace the sidelines today and your team gets deep into the season, credit is well deserved. Especially in this day and age when players are transferring left and right.

I still think Jonas Honick the best coach of all.
What he did with those five future Dentist's was amazing.

Here's wishing you great hoops

Marc I would agree if he wasn’t D5. Alloco went up against Oak Hill Academy twice, one game very close. Mater Dei of course, put up a few banners beating some loaded teams. Jonas no doubt ran a terrific program. And he took players that were not the jump out the gym athlete and made them winners. To me Alloco did that at a higher level of competition. That’s why he gets my vote.

Don't forget he beat a loaded Modesto Christian team 3 out of four. :)

I will never forget him at Gridley saying to a player, " Your not being responsible",
and the kid acted like he was smacked in the face. He just had a gifted way with being relatable to his players.
Here's wishing you great hoops

100% agree about Alloco and that famous foot stomp. He got teams with above average ability to play and win against elite programs. I was surprised when he left DLS because I thought he had more years in the tank but sounds like he got a good gig at USF.

He was a great coach to be sure, but there were some things going on behind the scenes, and he felt it was an appropriate time to move on. Heck of a legacy.

they were an elite program as well with elite talent. it isnt like he was at athenian or college prep. they may look different but they clearly are just as good

From the guy who thinks Kerr is just an average coach.
he is. he has 4 of the of the top 5 players ever to play in the nba on his roster. and none are 5th in that ranking. walton won 33 games of 40 with those players. then proceeded to be fired twice.
then when kerr he only had stephanie he all the sudden was in the lottery twice.
but hey dub nation 4 life. draymunnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn

Did you just say he has 4 of the 5 top players to ever play in the NBA. You can’t be serious.

So Phil Jackson only won with one good player? Both with the Bulls and Lakers?
