Riordan transfer

100% agree about Alloco and that famous foot stomp. He got teams with above average ability to play and win against elite programs. I was surprised when he left DLS because I thought he had more years in the tank but sounds like he got a good gig at USF.
Speaking of Alloco and good coaching, Ashmore had a heck of a run at Newark for many years going toe to toe with DLS, Mitty and other private school powerhouses, even ending up in Nor Cal open division the first two years it existed. Was too bad he never got that elusive state title

Good call. He’s right up there with Frank. He had some fantastic squads at Newark. The program hasn’t been the same since he left.

His best team by far was upset by Serra. I was at that game. One hell of a game.

Can remember another Newark - Serra game that went to OT and newark won at the buzzer. 2012 maybe. His best team was 2000 I believe where they lost to Tyson Chandler in the state title game for their only loss on the year

they were an elite program as well with elite talent. it isnt like he was at athenian or college prep. they may look different but they clearly are just as good
You are wrong. He ran an elite program with good talent. He got good players to play great He never had anywhere near the talent that places like O’Dowd, Salesian, Modesto Christian, Sheldon, Mitty , etc have. He would have a low d1 player sprinkled in with very good Hs players and a few d2 guys. Are you calling guys like Joe See , Justin Joyner, Brandon Smith, John MacArthur , etc elite? I think he had one pAc12 guy over the years (max pitts) and he didn’t last long at Arizona.

Alloco’s teams were always in every game.

I think it was mentioned but Newark Memorial coach was right up there. I believe he’s helping at cal state east bay now.

anyone that earns a D1 scholarship is elite. .02 percent proves that.
i played versus his teams. they were not some scrubs who were on the team to avoid taking pe. i think what you are saying is they were not supremely athletic, and i get that. clearly the schools you listed have a different demographic. but to say those dls kids were just good is really doing them a injustice. but athletic doesnt equal elite always. plenty of guys can jump out the gym and cant dribble with their off hand or make a jumper to save their lives

I only got to see some of the later years Ashmore had at Newark. All I remember was some ugly games with subs coming in and out every five seconds. Wish I could have seen them in better years!

LL, Frank did have quite a few D1 guys, and more than just 1 in the PAC 12. Brandon Smith started at Cal for 4 years. Theo Robertson & Jeff Powers also played for Cal. Current coach Marcus Schroeder & Lincoln Gunn both started for 4 years at Princeton.
MacArthur played in the WCC at Santa Clara, as did Ethan Niedemeyer at Portland, Jordan Ratinho at USF, Amadi Udenyi at Pepperdine, Beau Levesque at St.Mary’s off the top of my head. And a whole bunch of D2 guys as well.
Maybe not super elite NBA types, but plenty of very good high school players that he had a large hand into developing into college players.

Ah I think the point LL was making that nobody from DLS sniffed the NBA. Every team he mentioned has had guys in the NBA. And no offense but you are speaking of guys that went Ivy League and Portland of all places. Big difference between those guys and guys from Salesian, MC and O’Dowd. Sure Frank had players but not even close to the talent the above schools had. He coached the kids and made them excel.

Larry please be quiet you don’t know what you’re talking about. You don’t know me or my program. It sucks that here I am in Nov of 2022 having to respond to this type of crap from anonymous grown man haters on a message board. But I’m not going to just let you disparage me or my coaching staff. People are constantly talking about us out of jealousy, spite etc.

Put your real name to your s**t talking. Look up my contact info or message me here. Or please come say it to my face, you know where I’m at on game days and where I am everyday besides Sundays during basketball season.
why even bother responding? It's message board bashing and you shouldn't be instigating saying come find me and say it to my face. Or is that the message you send your players? smdh

I totally get what he was saying, but Frank had far better players than the other teams in the leagues his teams played in (BVAL & EBAL). Not better than those other destination privates, but not bad. He did also win a state championship at Northgate in the 90s though, so he’s got that going for him.

Frank had very good players no doubt, but there are a lot of guys like Powers (cal) who never saw the floor in college and I think was just a walk on. I guess my definition of Elite is a little bit different.
He did have a solid WCC/Ivy/big west league list of players. But most of his teams were just tough as nails and grind you until you made a mistake. The Definition of a system that was built to win if you played within the boundaries.

somethings gotta be said. especially when keyboard courage starts.

Thats the stupidest thing I've heard...ignore the haters. Responding in kind only makes you look stupid. This is a message board that NOBODY (rarely) knows, who's who.
i think that was the point. he told him he an come find out who he is and how he runs practices. instead of making assumptions on here. i am pretty sure both them middle aged men were not about to fight. just have a little discussion and watch practice or summnnn

71-23 at the start of the 4th. Hope he had way more than 2 and 2
Yeah. Agree. Good that he's going against players his own size @ practice. Riordan's big men have improved as the season has gone on. Pasanisi and Vailhola really improved in their senior campaigns. Wise looks to be on that same path. Saw John Tofi coaching #23 up at the NorCal tip-off.

Always a good thing to hear Tofi is into coaching. Was a true joy to watch him play high school ball. Great guy and great family
