All set for the zillionth renewal of this storied rivalry…

Currently, the Cougs frosh are up 19-7 early in the first quarter.

Not much on MaxPreps about either of the Matadors’ frosh or JV, so that’s that, not much of a preview…

Cougs varsity is 9-4 while facing a tough slate, including close 2 losses to powerful Vanden and one to Modesto Christian and one to Salesian, basically a “who’s who” of NorCal hoops.

Mira’s varsity is 5-9, and I can’t find a signature win…. But it’s a rivalry game, anything can happen…

44-10 Cougs at the half, major threat of a running-clock 4th quarter.

Speedy junior point guard Tyler Bergren has been out with an injury…. He did warm up pregame Friday, but didn’t play…. Wonder if he’ll get some minutes tonight…

Starting for the Cougs, Naffziger, Breznikkar, Sanguinetti, Mansour, Robeson.

3-ball for Robeson to open the scoring…

And Sanguinetti takes a charge! 3-0…

Robeson gets a 3 to drop…. 12-8.

Bergren enters the game, first one in a couple weeks…

Naffziger takes a charge!

Robeson nails a long 3!! 15-8 Cougs…

#5 scores for the Mats…. 15-10.

Mats lose it, over and back…. Cougs ball, 52 seconds, still 15-10.

Breznikar hits one, and he’s fouled!! 17-10, one shot from the stripe…. Swish, 18-10.

Cougs rebound a miss, halfcourt try by Robeson, online but short…. 18-10 Cougs after 1 quarter.

#34 banks in a 3 for Mira, 18-13…. Naffziger right back with a 3…. 21-13.

Mira scores a 3…. 21-16.

Bergren with a nice moves, scores his first bucket since returning…. STEAL, pass to Mansour for a score…. 25-16.

Mira with another 3…. 25-19. Naffziger with an offensive foul, his 2nd…

Naffziger with a putback score…. 27-19, time out with 4:34 left in the 2nd.

Robeson with a nice move, running hook…. 29-19.

Cougs stop, then Robeson drives, fouled, 2 shots…. Both good…. 31-19.

Mansour gets past his man, fouled on the way up. FT’s split…. 32-25.

Driving try by Mira #24, fouled on the way up. FT’s split…. 32-26.

Robeson drives down the right side of the key, fouled…. FT’s both good. 34-26.

2:15 left, Cougs foul, Mansour…. Mira #34 1 and 1…. Both good…. 34-28.

Naffziger with a putback score…. 36-28.

Nice cut to get a score by Mira #3…. 36-30.

Naffziger scores on a break…. 38-30.

Nice Euro by #24 of Mira…. 38-32.

Bergren pass to Sanguinetti, buzzer-beater J…. GOOD! 40-32 at the half.

Logan Robeson has 16 points at the half, leading the game…

Mansour starts the Cougs right off with a score…

Nice move for a Mira score, #15…. and he;s fouled…. makes that one…. 42-35.

He scores again on a break…. 42-37.

Sanguinetti serves up a Wilsonburger, leathery and hot…

Naffziger drives and scores…. 44-37.

Euro again by Mira #24…. 44-39.

Sanguinetti tries to get a charge, but no…. #24 shooting 2. First good, 2nd nope… 44-40.

Robeson rebounds his own driving miss, is fouled going back up…. FT’s split. 45-40.

5-seconds violation drawn by the Cougs…. Mansour drives and scores…. 47-40.

Mira missed shot, wild scramble for the ball as if it was important or something…. Cougs manage to get it and call time. 4:23 left, 47-40 Cougs.

Robeson nails a 3…. 50-40.

Naffziger hits one from the key…. 52-40.

Time out Mira…. 3:02 left 3rd. still 52-40, Cougs in front.

Bad pass, Cougs ball…

Corner 3 for Landon Fly of the Cougs…. 55-40.

Naffziger elevates and hits a midrange J…. 57-40.

#23 of Mira hits a corner 3…. 57-43.

Naffziger again with a J…. 59-43.

Robeson STEAL at half court, drives and jams it home!

Mira answers with a 3…. 61-46.

Pass inside to Tim Smith for the Cougs, he misses, grabs own rebound, scores at the buzzer! 63-46 after 3 quarters.

Mansour drive, off leg, out of bounds to Mira.

Moving screen on MIra. Cougs’ defense is really on-point tonight.

Naffziger nails a 3! 66-46…

#24 hits a Mira 3. 66-49, time out with 5:58 left.

PLAY OF THE NIGHT…. Bergren steals, falling backward, tosses pass straight over his head to Robeson who scores and is fouled! FT is good. 68-49. That was with about 5:30 to go.

4:59 left now, Mira fouled, 1 and 1…. FT’s both good. 69-51.

Robeson with a driving layup…. 71-51.

Bergren with a 3! 74-51…

Naffziger gets a pass from Robeson, hits a baseline J…. 76-51…. “THIS GAME’S OVER!” heard from the Campo 6th man crew…

Rendle joins in the 3-ball act for the Cougs…. 79-51.

and again! 82-51…

“JUST LIKE FOOTBALL!!” is the comment from the Campo students…

Tim Smith hits one from the elbow…. 84-51. 1:41 left in what was a pretty close game til maybe halfway thru the 3rd quarter.

Mira made a FT, got the rebound, but eventually, Rendle took a charge.

Great cut down the baseline for an easy score, steal by Marchetti for another easy score…

Cougs dribble it out, final score 88-52.

Boy Miramonte has really taken a huge step back since last season.
Last year they were 24-6, and this year have started off 5-10, with some really bad losses.
University beat them 80-29 and Alameda 80-51.
That's like falling off a cliff.

Looking back at this... it was 44-40 Campo about halfway thru the 3rd quarter, looking like it could be a typical tense rivalry battle to the wire...

Then the Cougs went on a 13-0 run as things caved in for Miramonte. From that 44-40 point, the score was 44-12.
