Last season, the Section's D1 seedings did not produce any upsets in the bracket. However, the teams were top-heavy last year with only three teams likely to make the finals (Folsom vs. MT or O.R.) and the bracket was seeded true to Cal Preps ratings.
Folsom is still the class of this year's D1 bracket, but the gap (Folsom 36 O.R. 33) is demonstrably closer. There is a solid argument to be made for MANY teams being capable of making the finals if the bracket had fallen in their favor.
Look at it this way: If Oak Ridge, Inderkum, MT, St. Mary's, Davis, Del Oro, Lincoln, and Edison were all in the same league would any of them make it through undefeated? Certainly possible, but not likely. Would any of those teams fail to win a game in that league? Again, certainly possible, but not likely. There is just too much of a "clustering" here to really separate them. Too many "Styles" that create "Match-Up" issues.
LUCKILY, that's what they playoffs are for. Speculation and opinion are fun, but scoreboards tell the only truth that matters.
Good luck tonight, and next Friday as well for all the bye teams.
