I just heard that Jim Thomas, former SF City basketball and track and field coaching at Lowell High school just passed away-he was a great friend and mentor. He was never mentioned on here as one of the best coaches because he coached at a public school in SF and they really didn't get much notoriety...but ask a lot of the great coaches that played against him and they'll tell you that they always played hard and was well prepared and They were always undersized but played big.
He served as a mentor to a lot of coaches in the city and the Bay Area. His funny, calm demeanor and smile that lights up a room will be missed.
