Serra picked to be NorCal Open rep

So far, there has been no public whining from anyone at Serra.
Why would there be any whining from Serra? That doesn’t makes sense at all? They got the selection for the Open. That should be the goal and they should en ecstatic for the opportunity. That is why you play the game, to compete.

You said "stop doing stupid things like this". Has this ever happened before? DLS has represented NorCal in the open every year besides 2008. This year they got beat by a team that got beat by Serra, DLS losing to SF (a NorCal Opponent) is something that hasn't happen in decades. One mistake by DLS & One mistake by SF put Serra in the CIF Open Championship Game.

I don't agree with it but I can clearly see how this happened. How DLS bounces back from this will be fun to watch.

How is DLS at the lower levels (F/JV)? I'm assuming they are loaded like always?
This is My Point.... Nor Cal Has Been Doing The Stupid Thing of Just Handing out The "Nor Cal Championship" ever since The Folsom Rule so Nor Cal's "Second Best team" gets a Shot at an SBG.... This should Always be Determined on The Field and Not Handed out by a Committee, just so Nor Cal teams can avoid playing DLS in a win or go home playoff game....

Just Look at 2018 for Example.... Folsom and DLS Played in the First Game of The Season and were clearly the Best 2 Teams in Nor Cal... So Basically The "Best Team In Nor Cal" was decided in the First game of the year.... Just so "The Second Best Team In Nor Cal" wouldn't be shut out of an Opportunity to play in a SBG and not have to play DLS in a win or go home game....

And Now we have this NCS Farce when you Lose to DLS in The Playoffs and you move into a lower level Championship Game and get a shot at being a CIF and State Champ....

As for The JV/Frosh at DLS, My Son has a couple of Friends who play on JV and they have a lot of talent and speed on the JV... The one thing they are Missing is Size on the Lines, but they are very tough and physical.... There are some outstanding Frosh and Soph Players on JV that will make an impact on Varsity next year.... The Stud Soph QB is on Varsity and but has been injured most of the year so we haven't seen him play other then mop up duty... The plan was he was going to be in some kind of rotation this year with LD, but He only suited up for the last 4 games so that didn't happen....

They won all their games other then SF, which I think they Tied or lost a close one, and Folsom who blew them out.... This is pretty common for DLS JV Teams as they rarely go undefeated...

Another big thing about DLS this year is there has been some coaching turnover (Not Just TE) and it has had a bigger affect on the lower levels then it has on Varsity... Some of the Varsity Coaches that retired this year spent a lot of time working with the JV and Frosh and developing the kids, that hasn't been there as much this year from what I have heard because the overall coaching staff is smaller this year then it has been in years past and with COVID DLS hasn't been able to run their same development program as in years past....

I agree. So ironic that DLS fans were so quick to point the finger at anyone thought of "crying their way into or out of games." DLS doesn't get selected for the Open and all we hear is crying.

Such an entitled fan base to include those not even affiliates with the program. Heck- the moderator was even advocating for them to get selected! Some people just don't like change.

DLS is in the 1AA bowl and that is that. That is what they EARNED and that's where they'll be. Given what Folsom did to Rocklin last week, it wouldn't surprise me to see Folsom make half of this forum shit their pants going into the 2nd half. Watch.

Entitlement culture is real. Be happy you even got a RBG. Some programs would kill to even have that.
I agree that there is a high entitlement with some in the De La Salle football sphere (though pasty calling out entitlement was something I didn’t on my NCP bingo card)

As I have stated on multiple threads, I don’t see an issue with the Serra going Open. I would have gone with De La Salle, which I also think is a rational take. Two things can be true without the world falling apart.

I'd take that bet for sure - Serra's kicker had a 50-yard FG last week - yes he's that good!
They may not get into field goal range, unless MD turns the ball over, or a fortuitous special teams bounce, or a series of consecutive 15 yard penalties. That's not a slight of Serra, not at all. MD is just that good

I don't think it's entitlement though, DLS body of work is better.

This is impressive….. The know the Fact I disagree with Serra Being in The Open makes it look like I don’t Like Serra which is not the case at all….

I am a Huge Fan of Serra and Coach Walsh and I even stayed before the season that I thought Serra was the Best Team in Nor Cal…..

The Kids at Serra Did a Great Thing this year which is get back up off the Mat and Beat a Team in The playoffs who beat them badly in the regular season…. The lesson of Being Resilience is one of the Biggest things HSFB teaches Kids….

Those kids accomplished something no one has done since 2014 which is being Chosen for The Open SBG over DLS….

So I am Done saying The Committee got it wrong…. Instead I say Congrats to those kids at Serra and Good Luck to Them, pull off the Miracle upset for Nor Cal in The Open!!!…. 🍻

OK just have to ask posters out there 2 questions:

1] Several posters have voiced that Serra will not make it beyond mid-field on MD and will be shut-out which I disagree & like to think the Padres may even get a FG.
Is the the consensus that Serra will be blown out and not make it into MD territory AND be shut-out?

2] Who is better - MD or the 49ers?

I’ll end my participation in arguing this one singular point by simply saying, Serra got in. DLS didn’t. That’s the reality. Some agree, some don’t. The rest of this is just smoke-filled coffeehouse crap.

As you were gentlemen.
Isn't that what the whole board is ...smoke-filled, coffee-house crap?

Cut!

Come on Streak! Haha, haha! "NorCalPreps bingo card". For real tho, haha! Pasty, calling out the moderator and the DLS fan entitlement! Haha,,Yall killing me right now that was so funny! Sorry but today was a lil crazy at work, and I needed that, a good laugh!

So, things are getting a lil heated around here I see. Oh yeah that's right,,, Folsom and DLS must playin?!

On all seriousness tho, I know we all disagree alot, well most times, okay all the time! But I appreciate the one thing we all seem to have in common.... the love for HS football!

Okay, sorry for the interruption.

Now, Lets get back to the action.........

IMO they got this selection right.

We have to use the data we have. Doesn’t matter that Serra lost to SF by a larger deficit than DLS. The fact is, they also have a W over that same team and DLS does not.

What DLS might have done in a rematch is immaterial. Because they didn’t get one. Serra did and won it.

Also, DLS had a 2nd loss. Serra didn’t. Sure it was to a Nat’l power, but still another loss. And not a close loss.

Serra’s resume was better thus the Open bid earned.

Now I just hope they can somehow give MD a game.

De La Salle also fisted a Folsom…a team who is a sectional champion, something Serra did not do.

That's odd... The Serra Frosh schedule recorded on Maxpreps is incomplete. It is missing Serra's lone 14-24 loss via SI and the ending standings being a tie with VC. Here is a better site for the WCAL schools especially for JV and Frosh. https://www.wcalsports.org/standings.html
I know lower levels don’t necessarily translate to Varsity Success, but it looks like SI has something working on the Lower Levels…..
