For the Padres, 2024 was a downer (in spite of that August upset vs. Folsom on the road), a 5-6 record (their first losing mark since 2005) with a number of close WCAL losses and a first-round flame-out in the post-season. The lack of a stellar QB was a major issue. They return dozens of strong kids as the 2025 campaign approaches. They are deep and talented in all three facets _ offense, defense and special teams. But QB is still a rather large question mark. They have some options but none appear to be in the elite category. If they find a solution at that spot, they should be a serious WCAL challenger. As for their non-league schedule (Folsom, DLS, Bosco), well, that's certainly not a walk in the park either.

From what I’ve been hearing Serra will start a sophomore this season but we’ll have to wait and see. My biggest question this season for Serra is they don’t return a single offensive player this season. That’s a lot of shoes that need to be filled in a small matter of time and with their non league schedule being how it is, I think Folsom will finally beat Serra this year. I expect Serra to be around 6-4 5-5 this season with improves of last season but nothing crazy. Serra has probably the best 2027 class in NorCal, this team will go as far as they take them with not much help.

Regarding offense, they return a gaggle of standout OL guys, a number of WRs and TEs and a variety of RBs. No big names. Yet. There is a boatload of raw and developing talent on offense. But they require a smart, athletic, facilitating QB to run the show. A 6-4 record is a reasonable expectation. They will cause major problems within the WCAL. But, again, the non-league trio of opponents ranks right up there with the toughest groupings in NorCal. Folsom will have its hands full in San Mateo. They will have to earn a W on West 20th Avenue. And they well could. Same for DLS. Bosco is on the road. Gulp.

Jeovanni Henley is an excellent playmaker, he was just hurt much of the year. Jace Cannon is a very good receiver — just got an ASU offer. Fehoko I believe started at guard both freshman and sophomore years. Taufoou, a safety, is probably their highest rated returning player. He is a four star with a Tennessee offer.

Every one of them are from the 2027 class. Serra doesn’t have much help besides them.
