SFL week 2 of league

TR, the more I think about it the more I’m not sure that DO doesn’t win this game with a little more cushion than I had originally thought. DO has been damn stingy on defense also this year giving up 10 pt/game. You have a rocklin team that struggles to score playing against a very good D.

LL, are you making it out to a game tonight?

The wife and I are heading over to Del Oro tonight, our first game in several weeks.

Are you following OR out to GB, or might you head out to Loomis as well?

Turlock reminds me of Rocklin in many ways. Turlock came to our scrimmage for 4 consecutive years. Their HC is younger and really coaches his butt off. They, like Rocklin always seem to be led by their physical defense. For some reason Rocklin's offense takes a year or two off after a successful season. The worst Rocklin and Turlock teams will still knock you on your A$$ but for some reason but they struggle to score vs good to great teams. Imo, both Turlock and Rocklin can play physically (defense) with any team in our section year in and year out

Jason Adams is a helluva defensive coach. Rocklin has been blessed in that regard over the years as they had Casey Taylor there as DC before he left for Del Oro in 2002.

Offensively Rocklin and Greg Benzel adopted Chris Ault's Pistol offense in the 2000's and have been running variations of it ever since -- even after Benzel stepped down from coaching a few years back. Their offense is typically run heavy and grinds it out.

Like any program, their offense can be dynamic when they have an elite line or back or when they have an above average QB. No offense to Joey Roberts but he's no Jimmy Laughrea, Daniel Kniffin or Kenny Lueth. And clearly their line is down from the past few seasons. But they do have some talented backs.

Unfortunately their offense has been pretty underwhelming this season. Lots of inexperience and not near as many play makers. And IMO Joey Roberts hasn't played near as well as he did in spots last season.

But their defense is still pretty darn good. They don't have the beasts on the line like they had before, but they are still quite stingy and their defensive backfield is very good. Getting Derek Houston back might make take them from a very good defense to one of the elite defenses in the area. That kid is a play maker.

I just don't think they'll be able to score enough to really challenge good teams, let alone the top tier.

TR,
I thought last night played out like most of use thought and if I’ve not mistaken you may have called a near upset of GB over OR. The GB game was old school sfl smash mouth style. Those kids from OR and GB played there hearts out. I have a lot of respect for how tough GB is.

Oak Ridge was pretty sloppy at times. Fumbled in red zone… Got stopped on goal line by GB and had to settle for FG which was blocked. QB play hasn’t been very stout the last 2 weeks as well. But, OR found a way not to go 0-2 and they did a great job of containing Jackson. GB is going to be a tough out in D2.
OR will need to play better if they want to beat DO. From what I’ve seen DO is more athletic than OR and there QB is a diff maker.
