SHC Roster on Max Preps

Sinkovitz and Nazzal should be there too

I didn't see those two. Oscar Cheng was there but he was in practice in the old gym. He's got height but he should hit the weight room. Amin Ogelsby and Bryce Monroe looked good. Good crowd too. At least 200 and catered food afterwards.

The Sacred Heart Boys played an impressive basketball game last night in front of close to 200 people. They have a returning player, who, last season, was voted Second Team All-WCAL as a Sophomore, and was the team's leading scorer and posted an unofficial WCAL record for taking the most charges, I'm speaking of 6'4 Swing-Man, Emmett Neal, Jr., who thrilled the crowd with an all-around game tonight, both defensively (Steals, Rebounds and Block Shots) and Offensively (5 - 3 Pointers, Assists, great shooting range inside and out, and a dunk for a total of 22 points. Neal is not one who usually gets much focus or publicity on these blogs, but he is someone to watch, as he has an all-around game and the potentials to make it to the next level. Amin O., a senior, just finished a stellar football season last Friday night in a playoff loss at Kezar Stadium, so he's a bit rusty on the Basketball, but he is a tremendous player with special skills. Bryce Monroe is not just an all-around player as a Sophomore, but he is a penetration power and nightmare, that can reek havock on opposing defenses, as with his athleticism, he can spread the floor and can create shots for himself and other teammates. SHC has a bunch of young, fresh leg talent that will be exciting to watch as their potentials are through the roof!

Don't sleep on this Team, as they are going to surprise a bunch of people, especially in WCAL League play and if they manage to get all their pieces and if their bigs all show up and compete, watch out!

The Irish have an upcoming Scrimmage against Mission High at SHC this Sat @ 10am. One thing to note is that Mission has 3 Starters from last year's State Championship Team who are currently playing Football. Mission plays Friday against Washington at 1pm @ Kezar and the Winner will play in the AAA Championship on 12/2 @ Kezar against either Lincoln/Galileo. I highly doubt the 3 Mission Football Players will play in the Basketball scrimmage the next day.
I've watched the Mission Varsity BBall Team practice and I must say, even without their 3 Starters, they have a nice team, plus they have a chip on their shoulder because some people don't believe they will be successful this season. The AAA better look out for a Mission Player from last year's squad, Guard Ben Knight, he plays like Kyrie Irving.

SHC will play against Logan at Logan at 7:30pm on December 2nd & they will play against St. Joe's at Valley Christian (West Catholic Showcase) on December 23rd at 4pm. These are 2 games to definitely put on your pre-season scheduler.

Is Sami Nazzal and Sinkovitz going to play this year? They will need their length and size to clog lanes for sure...nice write up...agree totally on Neal, nice player great attitude too. Also, how does the freshman team look, do you she see average or potential "BIGS"...just asking? Was that the potential you are talking about regarding the freshman in the above paragraph?...Because at Riordan, the talk is their freshman class for basketball is pretty solid, but they say that every year for all sports recently ;) SI has nice talent for the next 2-3 years in basketball for sure.

A former SHC parent was the one that said the Riordan Frosh basketball team looks to be solid this year. Just like the Crusader Frosh football team.;)
Top 24 Frosh Showcase had 3 Crusader Frosh on the team along with 2 from Mitty including stud Mike Mitchell.

The big question mark for Irish will be post. Over past few years, lived and died (mostly died) with 3s, with little no/presence in paint. A big if in WCAL with little 4-5 play. Yes, Mission will not be playing with 3 of their starters (due to football), particular those in the paint, though with their style of play they go 10 deep (i.e fast-paced). Yes, Ben Knight is a nice player. It should be a good run, but it will show very little. I do know that SI/Mission will potentially meet in semis of Sand Dune Classic. Both teams should be at full strength by then.

Just going by the Alumni Game scrimmage, there didn't seem to be a go-to 3-point specialist, and that 6'8" soph didn't play. I have no idea about the lower levels yet. (Sorry, rubbit5...).

More than likely, both Sinkovitz and Nazzal will not be playing this year, reasons I don't exactly know. I've watched Sinkovitz, now a Senior, for the last couple of years, I was surprised he played JV's last year, but I was hoping to see him play this season. I believe Nazzal is a Sophomore, but I stand to be corrected tho. For me, this is a wait and see situation/process, especially because of the SHC rebuild, football season just ending and pre-season just beginning. I have to give a ton of credit to Coach McKay for the job he's doing in this rebuilding period. I think he's aged 10, 15 years since he began last year. Tough time, but he's young and will endure and the payoff will be great.

I doubt that both Sinkovitz and Nazzal will play this year. Not sure exactly why. I can confirm that Riordan does have a STUD of a Freshman Class, but it will be the Coaching that determines their ultimate fate. Coach Buck would have had fun with these young Studs and if the truth be told, most of those Studs went to Riordan because of Coach Buck. As it turns out, the whole situation worked out for Buck, being he resides in the East Bay, the commute was killing my friend. Buck is a class-act and he gave his soul in 1990 as a Riordan Stud in his own right, as they almost beat Mater Dei at the Coliseum, they lost by 2, a whole different story, my mind just took me back a bit, lol.
Anywho, SHC has a surprisingly talented group of Freshman with a couple kids with good size too. The Varsity is trying out a Freshman big kid right now and there are some Freshman in the background who look to make some noise soon. Things are looking good over on Ellis Street!! SHC has 2 or 3 potential BIGS who are Freshman.

Neal hit 5 3's in the 2nd half of the Alumni game and he looks to continue his rise from sudden inclusion into the starting lineup last year, that was mostly due to upperclass player departures. The 6'8 Soph will play in January for sure as he transferred during the summer. I do believe if he would have enrolled into SHC by the end of the 2016-17 school year, he would have been able to play the preseason. FYI: Nate Robinson is able to play immediately for Las Lomas because he transferred to LL in the Spring of 2017, plus he was released from SHC as well that made it even better for him. Robinson commuted from Walnut Creek to SF for 3 years, that was a big commitment and the kid can play too!!!

SHC will be a quick team that in some ways will resemble Mission SF. The WCAL will need to be careful with this team because of their quickness as everyone will see this preseason. The Irish, I believe, will ultilize their speed and their small-ball approach will be effective. The interesting thing is not only are these current kids still growing, Bigs are showing up out of nowhere, but these current kids are very, very athletic. So much potential out there in Irish Land it really blows my mind. I'm trying to call it like I see it. I'm not trying to steal any quotes from anyone, but the term, "wishing you great hoops!" is the buzz quote for this season. Much credit is given to the founder of the before said quote

The possible SI/Mission semi-final Sand Dune matchup will be a great game considering Mission upset SI on SI's own floor back in March during the CIF Regional Playoffs. Too bad the kids from Mission, some of them, that hurt SI last March have graduated, but the returning Mission players have chips on their shoulders anyway so it should be a great game!! All I can say is Ben Knight!! I've watched the kid since he was 9 playing AAU. A talent indeed!!

Agree, coaching will be key for the Crusaders at all levels. New coaches at the Frosh level, last season's Frosh A coach promoted to JV coach and Coach Curtin adds 3 asst coaches, one a Crusader alum who comes over from University High and their 3-point bombing offense. I for one, was one of the most vocal in my disappointment in the Riordan admin in letting Coach Buck go. I'm so glad Coach Buck landed at SM-B. Moving forward, Curtin played and apprenticed under the Doctor of Hoopology and was Coach Buck's assistant for many years...A recent podcast posted on the Riordan Athletics site has Coach Curtin laying out his plan for the program and how all the kids are buying in. http://riordanathletics.org/news/20...21-2017-nothing-but-net-with-joey-curtin.aspx

Coach Buck handled the situation really well. By him not being full-time at Riordan made it tough anyway for a number of reasons I think many of us are aware of. He made tremendous sacrifices to make it work. For him to land a great coaching position in the East Bay and it makes him more comfortable is great for me. I totally agree with your statements on the Coaching and definitely the buy-in! I wish Riordan well with these next generation kids.

Lower levels look good! Overwhelming turnout which was surprising and I mean quality individuals who have come out and yes, Talent is there for sure. Exciting, and a hopeful Morale boost for the entire SHC Boys Basketball program. The climate is changing

How they look against Mission today...was it speed with speed?
