SJS: Foothill Valley League

This is the second year for the new D 3 Foothill Valley League in the SJS (Lincoln, Nevada Union, Oakmont, Ponderosa, Placer, Rio Linda) and it's looking to be really interesting. All of the teams came into league play with winning records and while the favorites did win in the first league matchups last week, there were no blowouts (Lincoln 28 - Oakmont 17, Placer 28 - Nevada Union 14, Rio Linda 37 - Ponderosa 34). Every game has the potential to be competitive so it should be an exciting season.

Placer and Lincoln are the two top tier teams. May likely be the last league game that decides the FVL Champ. My money is on the Hillman.

Big impact on the D3/D4 playoffs as well. Along with the VOL league down south with Oakdale, Manteca and Sierra all in the mix. Lots of interesting matchups depending on who ends up in which Division

Is it a similar situation in the VOL, where if certain teams win league they'll be bumped up a division?

Yes, and the interesting thing is should there be a three way tie all teams are considered champions and are moved up. So in the VOL’s case if Oakdale were to beat Central Catholic, it would create a 3 way tie with CC, Manteca and Oakdale. CC is already locked into D2, but Oakdale and Manteca would both be moved into D3 as league champions. If CC wins the league outright, Oakdale and Manteca stay in D4.

In the FVL Lincoln looks like they have a pretty good squad capable of winning the league and should they beat the winner of the Rio Linda v Placer game but lose the loser you would have the same situation. Lincoln is already D2 by enrollment, but a 3 way tie would move Rio Linda and Placer to D3.

If there is a tie they will more than likely go to the 13 point tie breaker rule for the seeding. 1 seed would elevate up.

Got it. I looked at the section site playoff rules and that is correct. Guess I shouldn’t believe everything I read on the internet ‍♂️

I like what I've seen from Lincoln this season. Got rolled by Oak Ridge -- as any team from their league likely would -- and played 6-0 Center pretty tough. Beat previously undefeated Oakmont this past week.

I traveled up to Hooper Stadium this past FRI night to see the Hillmen and Miners. Champ's straw chewers look pretty good, but I think the Zebras might give'em a run. That 11/1 matchup up in Auburn is on TR's radar right about now .....

The FVL continues to be really interesting and competitive. Ponderosa beat Lincoln last week which was a surprise. Nevada Union led Oakmont in the first quarter 14-0 and fought until the end even after they lost their lead, and while the outcome of the Placer/Rio Linda game wasn't a surprise, it was maybe lower scoring than expected.

This week Lincoln travels to Rio Linda, Ponderosa plays at NU, and Oakmont goes to Placer for their homecoming game.

It was a gauntlet for the last 5 weeks. Very fortunate to get out with a bye to heal up some battered bodies. Best of luck to everyone moving forward!

Truth be told,the SJS D3 FVL(Foothill Valley League) is for REAL!Every team in the FVL can and HAS beat each other up in league play regardless of final score!There were a couple games with lopsided scores as certain teams matched up differently than did others BUT the physicality and athleticism in each and every game was definitely front and center.....this D3 FVL is NO cakewalk!2019 SJS Playoff representation from the D3 FVL= D4 (Rio Linda,Nevada Union) D3 (Placer,Ponderosa) D2 (Lincoln,Oakmont)....Congratulations to ALL the teams,best of luck to all the teams......monster year!Bravo FVL Bravo
