Does anyone know why the SJS section starts their Baseball playoffs so early in the season? I believe, to date, they are the only section in CIF to be conducting playoffs now and they are already in their semifinals week.

I think their Quarterfinals and Semifinals are 3 game series?….. Maybe that’s why?…

Yes, they are three game semifinals with the finals next week. I'm not sure why they started early. But I think they will have a longer break between sections and NorCals.

Having the playoffs early and spread out, teams will be at full pitching streghth for most of the playoffs. Only this week presses a bit on pitching depth.
I do really like the 3 game series for the playoffs…. Baseball is so tough because if a pitcher is on or the lineup gets hot or there are some untimely errors any team can get upset…. The 3 game series helps with that….

Yes I agree. One and done is great, but a 3 game series really shows who has more of a team and depth. I also prefer leagues to do series and have teams play each other in back to back games. That way a team can’t just stack their rotation and throw their ace every time against the same team.

Yes to both things.

I also like the change the SJS made from one round of single elimination to two. It used to be double elimination after that first game and it turned into a battle of attrition more than skill. I remember one final between Elk Grove and St. Mary's where was the score was like 20-11 and even the top pitchers were getting hit around
