SRV/C-let

Call me skeptical that an 8th grader who has never proven herself in AAU could start for any varsity team in the state. Maybe you are right, but that would be one hell of a hidden gem nobody knows about. I'm not buying what you are selling.

Trust me when I say this not everyone is good at spotting high potential and those that have "it". And that is why I also said it would be important for her to get into the right fit. A situation where the coach saw what I saw in the player early on. Everyone is good at pointing out who's good once they start displaying it. Too many talented people miss their full potential by ending up in the wrong situations. I don't care how good you are you can't ball from the bench. I've been wrong about as much as I've been right. I don't think being right is more important than standing for what is right. Just that ideology alone makes me dis connect from a whole lot of people. Because most have to be right in a self centered, ego driven society.

Notice I said IMO she "could" I didn't say she would start on any team in the state. Coaches overlook talented players for one reason or another all the time. And its not uncommon to see many situations where players potential is not tapped into and often their confidence is ruined. I hope and at the same time doubt it will happen to this particular child. And I do stand by my claim that I haven't seen any player in the East Bay as ready right now in terms of having 'it" the full package of size, athleticism, physical strength, basketball IQ, good attitude AKA (very coachable), maturity, fundamentals etc.... I'm sure more than one person has been good enough in middle school to start on just about any high school team. Of course the position has to be open for them to be actually able to. And of course there is a lot of politics in high school that could prevent just about anyone from immediately getting on the floor. Most teams already have their starters determined before the tryouts. So I'm just saying the kid already has enough given the chance to start on just about any team in the state. I've seen quite a bit of girls basketball up close in the past 12 or so years to be able to tell who would be able to hold their own and who would get eaten alive. Again who the coach is will play a very significant part in this child's development. Just as it was a better fit for Sabrina to not attend Los Lomas and get with Kelly Sopak, Cal Stars, and MM. I'm sure she would have been good without Sopak, Cal Stars, and MM. But IMO most likely ( depending on who else she would have been developed and encouraged by) not as good. I don't think Los Lomas only would have been the support and developmental environment to nurture her talent to close to full potential IMO.

I'm not saying this is definitely the best player at her age in the state. I never get into the who's better than who discussion. Because I know there will be good and bad games and times for every player. I just sum it up as either you can ball or you can't. This young player "can" ball. Does she have a lot of room to grow and improve? Of course she does. That's what makes it scary already.

I do not disagree with many of your points. It doesn't make sense to me that you know of a player who is talented enough to start on any team in the state who is 8th grade or below and has never played AAU. Where have you seen her play to prove this dominance and formulate this opinion? Rec leagues? CYO? I'm not trying to be argumentative. I'm curious who is this future superstar completely under the radar and how you found her away from the AAU scene. Usually by 8th grade everyone knows everybody who is worth a d*m.

Carondelet typically does not get transfers but I would bet with all of the talent leaving they get in the mix with a key transfer or two.

I totally agree with you. It is odd and almost unheard of but not totally impossible. As a footnote I have helped find and market talent in the entertainment field off and on for the past 20-25 years. I have a good eye for talent. Perhaps it's a gift? There is a major label or coach or two out there that would tell you I have pointed out and spotted talent early in a number of people. I don't know if the girl in question has played CYO or AAU. Perhaps she has, but I have no information that she has. And perhaps I see something in her that many others are overlooking.

Because she is very young and I have not spoken with her parents, I don't feel comfortable in saying exactly who she is. I dont even know what expectations her parents have planned for her. They may want her more focused on academics and not sports.

They might. That is a very good observation. One problem however would be based around the fact that it cost money to go to Clet and is free to go to say MM, California, SRV, or Campo. I do think many private schools often help some students find a way to get financial support, but I could be wrong. Bottom line is Clet should not get a bunch of dirt poured on them and be buried just because they are graduating a good senior class. My daughters freshman season 2013-14 there was a very good senior class as well, and the best return player on the team Chenault decided to not return to play basketball but instead focus on her track scholarship UCLA offered her. The school still draws enough talent and/ or size to remain relevant is my main point to the critics that think Clet will be done for quite a while after this season. Much continued success and improvement to them in the future.

I don't know if anyone is throwing dirt on them, but at least a small drop off seems likely losing a couple of D1 players. It happens to coincide with a couple of EBAL programs on the rise, so things could get interesting. But no they are not going to turn into Livermore in one season, and IMHO will still be the favorites if they go back into the EBAL. They will just have some competition which is a good thing.

So true !

Hey even if SRV, California, and or Dublin should beat Clet it would't be the end of the world. You just congratulate them and move on all while staying focused on winning the 20 or so games ( or whatever the number is) you are aiming to win that year. It's never so much about wins or losses as it is about how you are winning or losing. And if you are working to continuously improve.

And spending your time focusing on what you can do as a team and individual(s) to improve while not concerning yourself with what others are or are not gonna do. Other people's business is just that. IMO CLet needs to focus on their own business without distractions or concerns about others on the outside. You know kind of like Mitty, Pinewood, Mater Dei, MM, etc...

I think you will likely see a repeat of Chenault next year. I believe one of the Carondelet players is an elite level track star that is destined for d1 in that sport. I would not be surprised to see her sprint off the court and focus the needed time on track.
