St. Francis is gonna hammer Sacred Heart Prep on Tuesday night

SHP squeaked by a mediocre Riordan team thanks to a ton of missed free throws by Riordan. By the way, Riordan was not a good team away from their home court (2-5 on the road in WCAL).

We are tired of hearing about SHP. Their football team was able to win the Open without facing the WCAL champ - they got a good draw.

SHP hoops will not be so lucky as they have to play St. Francis, the WCAL champ, on Tuesday. SHP had a fine season and won their crappy league, but the party is over.

St Francis 65, SHP 45

OK this has got to be a Gator fan trying to rally the troops unless its a Lancer fan with a 40 of Olde English 800.
So Riordan was good enough to beat St. Francis and Riordan & is simply a "mediocre" team? Riordan was the 4th place team in WCAL so they were better than 4 other WCAL teams [if my math is correct]. SHP not only beat Riordan, but they beat Bellarmine as well this season, the same Bells who also beat St. Francis as well as Mitty.

SHP's football team was clearly the best team in CCS this year as any knowledgeable fan would agree. As for not playing the WCAL champ, they didn't have to as the co-champs Serra & VC both lost in the first & 2nd rounds - Serra got spanked by Los Gatos 28-0 whom SHP beat and VC lost to Bells who SHP beat. It didn;t matter who the WCAL team was in the CCS Open playoffs, SHP would have beat them, period.

I would think SF would be favored in this game, but not by 20. Serra crushed HMB & SF cruised past Fremont, but SHP is better than either of those teams. This is the same type of post we saw during football when fans proclaimed SHP would get annihilated in CCS Open by any of the WCAL teams. This should be a good competitive basketball game & I would be surprised if SF wins by 20. I think the Lancers better concentrate on winning first.

"Bobeck21" - why is it always a first-time poster with this stuff? C'mon admit u r really a Gator fan!

I dont understand your logic. St. Francis just lost to Riordan and SHP just beat Riordan. I think it will be a tough game for SHP to win, but there is no way they lose by 20 in my mind.

St Francis had already clinched WCAL. They played subs more in that game and game meant everything to Riordan's chances at Open. Riordan not that good of team; league was down to begin with this year. SHP victory was not a big surprise. They may match up well with St. Francis; I expect a good game.

Riordan not that good? Were you at last night's game? Riordan blew the game by not making their free throws and shots were not falling in the second half. Their D allowed 21 points at the half and SHP avgs 72 points a game.
Were you at the St. Francis-Riordan game? It was Senior night and BOTH teams started their seniors. The Lancers were playing to win as they had a 10 pt lead mid 3rd and had their starters in during the 4th quarter when the Crusader D shut them down with only 5 points scored. Not sure why the hate as they won and SHC squandered 4th place and got blown out at Mitty. SHP is legit, but SF has too many playmakers, height and depth and will pull out a close hard fought win.

I stand by my statement. Riordan is as good as Stansberry playing. It hurt not having their 3 point shooter for last month. WCAL definitely emphasizes defense which showed, however much too dependent on Stansberry. There FT shooting has also been their Achilles heel all year. Not the fastenst Crusader team. SHP matched up well against them. No surprise.

Agree with your assessment of the Crusaders. Will be interesting how the NorCal D3 seedlings shake out.

Does the winner of Open automatically go to Open for NorCal/State? I'm not sure how it works can someone explain to me.

Rmbr26 - yes I am a 1st time poster but long-time reader. You have over 2800 posts but don't seem to grasp the point i'm making, which is that all of the WCAL is sick and tired of hearing about SHP. Yes, they had a fine football team but they had a favorable draw - but i want to talk hoops not gridiron.

If anything I am a Serra fan but my main point is that all the best athletes in this area go to WCAL schools. Kids (and parents) go to SHP if they aren't good enough for WCAL, and they pay a lot of $ to go there. So when we have to read all the time about how great SHP is, it's a joke and it's gone on for long enough.

The party is over on Tuesday night vs. the WCAL champ.

St. Francis 65 - SHP 45.

Wow that is pretty insulting in my mind. You basically just said they have no good athletes and pay big bucks for athletics. Which both are false. There athletes are very good and work together. They pay that kid of money because that school can get students into top name colleges easily (I do think it is too expensive tho). It seems to me that you are saying their football season was a fluke also. Give them their respect they were the best team in football this year and are a top 4 basketball team this year. No other school can claim that. You are giving SHP motivation to prove everyone wrong. I'm not saying they will beat St. Francis, but they won't lose by 20.

How is it a joke? Your just mad and can't accept the fact that the little school from Atherton with 600 kids is better at a lot sports than many WCAL teams. SHP is legit and has a top sports program in the bay.

Bobeck21 what was that? I thought they were gonna get hammered. Show some respect. SHP is legit

SHP earned a lot of respect tonight. I thought my 65-45 call was looking good for a while, but I didn't realize how tough and well-coached SHP is.

I would not want to face them in D4 Norcals, I'll tell you that much.

Bobeck, your prediction of a Lancer blowout was based on a pretty weak opponent in Fremont. The offensively-challenged Crusaders blew them out by 29 points last night. My 62-58 call was not far off and my assessment of SHP's physicality/defense and SF's big man being pushed around and not dominating a shorter foe came true. SHP should make a deep run in D4 NorCals. SF's strength lies in its backcourt/shooting forwards of Witt, Thomas, Stapes and Benedetti. The sr. big #10 is more productive than Hewitt. This may hurt SF's chances going deep in the NorCal Open. Serra-SF #3 should be a classic! Did Mitty's, Much, play?

Tony Martinelli and Pete Lavorato are two peas in a pod. There is some great coaching at SHP at various other sports.
