St. Mary's schedule reflects the game for Friday night, not Saturday night. Streak, where did you see the game posted on the (Stockton) Record that the game has been moved to Saturday? I am seeing it on Friday based on latest
blog from the Record.
I anticipate the CN vs SMS game to be much closer than last year's game (35-15). The Rams only return 6 starters, just 1 on defense. Just as they went with the junior for QB, the rest of the team is very young, mostly juniors. The key player to watch for St. Mary's, slot WR Dewey Cotton, is also a junior. But, SMS's junior class has much talent/skill, and the sophomore class is not too shabby either, with just a few sophomores moved up to varsity. The big test will be the Rams defense. Last year's Ram defense was one of the best in a while, anchored by MLB, Khalil Hodge, who led the state in tackles. Sure going to be some big holes to fill. Besides #17, Dewey Cotton, I anticipate much yardage from senior RB #7 Brandon Zaunbrecher and sophomore RB #22 Dusty Frampton, sporting the same # worn by SMS alum Doug Martin (starting RB with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers). As, St. Mary's likes to run a balanced offense, I anticipate we will see more offense on the ground from the Rams than in the air, at least until Jake settles in. I really like this decision because it sets up well for next year. Still, I know the focus will be on this year and more specifically, this week. CN already has a game in the books, having beaten Del Norte (62-19). If CN can take advantage of St. Mary's reloaded defense, this could be a very interesting game. If not, I feel confident the Rams' ground attach will take care of business. Look for St. Mary's RB's to force CN to crowd the box and open up the field for Jake to get some passes in, too.
Congrats to Jake! GO RAMS!
