State Bowl Scoreboard

Big plays determined both games. Both SoCal teams had a pick 6, MDC had a lot of big gainers on offense and Sutton had the long TD run in Q1

Nominating for homer post of the year. Nor Cal was out played and out physicalled in all aspects in both games.

Homer post?

Yes they were outplayed. One of the reasons was that they allowed big plays. That’s me explaining what I saw. Does that work for you? I can use smaller words.
Using words like Constantinople and Timbuktu still won't change your take about blaming the losses on isolated big plays. What are your thoughts on the future of the DLS program? Does Butter stick around much longer?

I’m not blaming losses on isolated plays. I’m giving a reason why I thought they happened. And you gave your reasons. And other people can give their reasons. That’s a discussion, not making excuses.

I think DLS will always be a top program in NorCal but this is a crossroads for them similar to 2004. Terry Eidson made that argument this week.

What was your last question?

Lucky Sutton real deal. What a bruiser.
i really had folsom winning this one. CC really shut out lyons. For a kid with offers from Bama ,GA, LSU, etc I was expecting much more. Tell me what I’m missing? Did Folsom just not get him involved?

It happens it goes in cycles, it was actually the same way with Skyline for many years, and was Oakland high. At one time they were even a basketball powerhouse and finished number 2 in the nation. 32-0 ask Damian Lillard who I watched play at Oakland high he'll tell you the same thing.. just as and then late 50s early 60s they were 3 years number one nationally. Just a school with a lot of pride But you would think what you want, people always afraid of what they don't know or understand. I was just making a point earlier on school sizes and enrollments earlier on how that can affect their depths. That may be true with some schools and that may have been true with some schools.
10+ years isn’t a “cycle”. That’s systemic. It’s obvious they are getting some advantage that the other Oakland schools are not, perhaps because of the low enrollment, but there is an advantage.

Skyline wasn’t a cycle, either.

They tried to get Lyons the ball. He dropped his first 3 passes, so they brought in the backup who made the catches.

Only in the Bay Area

Everything looks a lot different (tougher) in these State games in SoCal. Different brand of football.
The first game today could also be very interesting. Scripps Ranch has a pretty good passing game, but their defense is smallish. Their SoCal regional opponent reportedly had issues running up the middle all year, but they were able to bruise the Falcons quite a bit, particularly in the 3rd qtr.

Now enter Wilcox and their quick-hitting veer offense. We’ll have to see if Scripps can slow that down. Defensively, I had wondered whether the Chargers could deal with the passing attack, so I watched their game against Menlo. While you couldn’t see the coverage, that QB seemed to really have difficulty finding anyone open because he ended up running for his life quite a bit.

Interestingly, although Scripps runs the spread, their QB does not seem to like to run at all. In their last game, their starting RB was out. I don’t know if he will play today.

Any public school that is dominating year after year isn’t because the kids in the neighborhood just have good genes. Agree with you 100 percent. Is recruiting and pipelines easier on the private school side, sure the rules are different. But my uncles cousins aunts nephews father can live in any neighborhood.

The games have been what the SBG should be competitive and in doubt till very late
If there has been a lesson taught this year, it’s that you can’t hang anything on any single game. The daisy chains often did not work at all in a lot of cases.

Folsom>DLS>Cathedral Catholic>Folsom

Hollister>Wilcox>Menlo>Hollister

Clayton Valley Charter>Bakersfield Liberty>Pittsburg>Clayton Valley Charter

In any game, there is a winner and a loser. That doesn’t mean that that is how is it would play out in every scenario. It baffles me every time I see someone who should know better say that the better team always wins. That’s complete nonsense.

Folsom had a tough stretch.

Beating undefeated Rocklin in the SJS title game and then traveling to DLS and dominating their lines was amazing in itself.

They were due for a letdown. Unfortunately, it came at the very end.

Still 4-1 in SBGs :)
