State Bowl Scoreboard

DLS blew their big chance to really get back in the game (after they closed to within 23-15) when they had a tremendous opportunity at forcing a 3 and out or even a safety.

The Spartans had the Monarchs pinned deep and facing 3rd and quite long. They allowed the Mater Dei QB to escape back into his own end zone then convert the potentially game altering first down.

If DLS holds there, they get the ball back with all that momentum they had just built and likely end up with excellent field position to boot. If they capitalize and follow up with another TD — who knows what happens from there.

All things considered — it was a great, gutsy effort by Sparty against a superior opponent.

When was the last ncs title game they lost?
What does that have to do with the question? The NCS is never the strongest section in NorCal. NCS was very good this year……. the top teams in NCS were. But outside of them, the rest of the section at the Open/D1 level isn’t very good. They actually brought up lower level NCS schools this year into the Open/D1 classification because the schools that fit the criteria were so bad. This was discussed earlier going into the playoffs this year. When is NCS the best section in NorCal? SJS is better, CCS is better in that those sections usually have more good teams in them. An “all star” team wasn’t necessary to win the section even all those years DLS won it. It had a few more good teams over th years sure. But then, DLS had better teams during that time frame as well.

Very gutsy. 1 possession game against #1 team in the nation in 2nd half. Pretty damn impressive. Don't know if you guys picked up on this but Oregon must be dishing out some big NIL because they seem to be locking up a ton of west coast kids. Future looking bright for Ducks and Wash.

Not sure that is accurate. NCS is always very good and was when DLS had the run as well. Its usually the best sections in hoops and baseball as well.
These programs have been historically strong. Maybe not some this year but overall, very good and deep.

DLS
Pitt
MV
SRV
Newman
Marin Catholic
Rancho
Windsor
Campo
Acalanes

impressive performance from de la salle ... mater dei put that long drive together in the 3rd similar to what de la salle does just took the air out of the ball

I’m talking about the Open/D1 football classification only.

Monte Vista has become a non factor. DLS, Pitt, SRV.After them…a HUGE drop off. The other schools you listed are not Open/D1 schools. Though I’m not sure how many were moved up to the Open/D1 bracket for the reason I stated earlier

Defensively in particular, DLS played well. After the first two MD scores they settled in nicely. Especially since the DLS offense took so long to get going

The last 2 times DLS has been in the Open they have had it at a 1 score game in the 4Th quarter….

I thought the defense played pretty darn good, if they get any help from the offense in the first half, this game goes down to the wire!….

DLS is finally back to the level they were pre COVID in 2019…. They believed back then they were going to win the Open and they believe it now…. They have proven they can compete at that level….

Great season for The Spartans, once again the Kings of Nor Cal….

Yeah that one missed pass in the 1st half was brutal too. That was a TD.
The TE that the commentators was salivating over is a 2x 8th grade holdback. (Bowman). He will have to reclassify after next year.

Both DLS & SRV were brought up from D2.
Pitt, CVC & Cal were the only D1 teams in the Open/D1 bracket this year. And the NCS did win 7 of their 8 “NorCal Championships”.

Amador Valley was the 4th place team in the EBAL Mountain this year, and were placed in D2 where they ran the table and then won the NorCal game to play in their first “State Championship” bowl game. They lost by 1 to SRV and in OT to Cal, and they have a D1 QB headed to Oregon St.

That’s been the issue with their QB #13, if he could consistently complete 6-7 out of 10 passes a game, DLS could beat anyone…

Kid is amazing at running the veer, one of their best ever, just lacking the passing touch for effective play action…

I think the return of Edison was a huge factor. This team tackled better than any team the last several years which had gotten very sloppy. Looked alot more hard nosed and physical, in position and really sacked up against the upper echelon opponents they played.

They just need to figure out the passing game, or whether they just abandon that thought and say we are gonna win with a running game and defense and take our chances on the 1-2% of the teams in the country that probably wont work against?
