3 local players on the roster AAU is really something else God bless those who love it

away into the dog and pony show called the "CIRCUIT"

Those who don’t like aau was never good enough to play it. That’s my thought. You should be more upset with these local mom and Pops aau teams that are stealing money from kids who have no chance of going to college. Team Lillard, Soldiers and Arsenal has sent plenty kids of to college and have kids playing in the NBA.

Aren't there aspects of aau one could like/dislike? For example, there is very little "traditional team basketball" as it is more of a showcase. If someone isn't a fan of isolation basketball they definitely won't like aau. My biggest beef is the amount of time the kids miss school. Playing in Atlanta means leaving on Thursday evening at the latest for most programs and they return on Sunday night exhausted. Other than that, it's great entertainment.
These programs didnt create the kids. The athletes sent themselves to college or the NBA based on the genetic lottery, hard work, or a combination of the two. I'm sure when Lebron James writes his memoir, there won't be a section dedicated to the Soldiers for getting him to the NBA. These kids would get to college if there were no aau. The same is true for high school ball. If only aau existed, the kids would still get to the next level.

Very well said youseechief these kids would end up where ever there skill set would place
them. I DO like the exposure it gives kids and allows them to get out and see state's
and cities that may other wise not get to see but for every 1 kid that does get a scholarship
there are 7 to 8 kids whose parents threw away thousands into a or multiple AAU programs
only to see the kid play junior college ball where his talent level would have placed
him anyway. Another problem which can be debated on another day is the high school
players of today feels like they are TO GOOD to play JC basketball which back in the day
before AAU was prevalent was the normal transition route for many high school players
and it wasn't viewed in a negative light at all. so youseecief you are abousetely correct
when you say there are aspects one could like/dislike about AAU basketball.

Or what about parents using AAU basketball, no matter the level, to keep them occupied and out of trouble. Making long lasting friendships, teaching them about hard work and dedication. AAU is also a tool used by some to steer their kids in the right direction.

Why though? Not everyone is playing AAU because they're college ballers. Some are just playing cause they love playing basketball, and if mom and pops can afford it then theres nothing wrong with it tbh

Not sure where you been man but the days of playing basketball just for fun is over. All these kids are trying to get scholarships or YouTube highlights. Playing for fun stopped in 8th grade with cyo and rec ball. Most of these kids have no chance of getting a scholarship. Look at how many basketball players we have in Northern California versus how many actually get a free education. Ratio is some where 1 and 50 I’m sure.

So you have these dudes who milk the system and take thousands of dollars from parents selling them the hoop dreams of getting a scholarship. What parent isn’t jumping on that “opportunity” So many other things to do in the world for fun than play basketball man. So i totally disagree with you.

Yeah I guess what you're saying is true, everything turns into a business sooner then later. Where theres a profit, theres also 10 people waiting to capitalize on it.
